News just came out. this month.
I can't see MS or any of them not doing this with their OS.
I figure if this is true, the pressure to do this will be overwhelming. Marketplace competition will get it done as no one will want to be left behind in the dust.

A future OS change in how the OS works with existing hardware can double processing speed.
That means your old machine is going to be twice the speed it was.

However, if one of those gotta-have-it gadgets boasted double the speed using only half the power? Well, that’s a tech advancement worth the (inevitable) multi-million dollar ad campaign that follows.

A new processing technique could double the speed of existing computer performance while also improving efficiency during the heaviest of workloads, according to a new study.
The software algorithm, leveraging a technique known as simultaneous and heterogeneous multithreading (SHMT), uses multiple processing units and AI accelerators to avoid computational bottlenecks.
This SHMT process isn’t coming to a device near you quite yet—the idea is still in the testing phase to see if it’s worth

However does this really help while typing in stuff on Word etc, browsing the web or whatever. For running A.I, complex maths/spreadsheets etc or even high resolution games OK but I think most would rather the current OS was made bug free, less bloat in it and get basic networking running 100% OK everytime.

However does this really help while typing in stuff on Word etc, browsing the web or whatever. For running A.I, complex maths/spreadsheets etc or even high resolution games OK but I think most would rather the current OS was made bug free, less bloat in it and get basic networking running 100% OK everytime.

It will help in games or any cpu intensive apps.
Should help with database apps.
Processing graphics for web pages, should help it.

It should help running apps on older hardware that you cant run well.

And if it really does save electricity, it is sure to be done too., not sure what twice the speed at half the power means

power use cut in half while doubling speed is extremely significant.

AI is all the rage too.

It should help running apps on older hardware that you cant run well.
How will this help older hardware when it relies on a TPU being present? This is only going to be applicable to newer machines and will still rely on developers actually implementing it correctly too.

Also thinking this way, consider phones and laptop PC's.
Manufacturers could use old cheaper chips and have higher profit margins.

Phone speed could be the same as a current model phone but use half the power.
Battery life could double before needing charging.
Costs could drop for consumers and or not rise as much.

Same with anything computer like powered by a battery.

How? You're adding an additional chip in order for this work.

Costs could drop for consumers and or not rise as much.
I doubt it, if anything, these phones will be far more expensive since they're be more complex to manufacture and from what I've read, Google hold the rights to these new TPUs, therefore they're still propriety technology and Google will likely charge an extortionate amount to use them.

The "AI" bubble burst just like the crypto bubble did, the sooner we get to that point, the better in my opinion.
