HEVC Video Extensions Don't Work Anymore


Thanks @hsehestedt for this. It is useful information. I don't use these 3rd-party codecs anymore as VLC decoding is enough for me in cases where the normal Video Player can't process the files.

I normally don't install additional CODECs either, but on my system where I do all my video editing, I do have them installed there. I don't care so much about the thumbnails, but the ability to see the frame size in File Explorer is rather important to me.

Easiest would be to grab the app bundle from the Generator site and just update it...

As noted, that only provides limited functionality. You can play HEVC video with that extension, but you will not get the functionality discussed earlier.

just install kodi -- even better than VLC -- config is a bit of a bother but it plays absolutely EVERYTHING !!!

I uninstalled with Geek Uninstaller, rebooted and re-installed. All works fine now.

There are many ways available to solve this. You can install a codec pack. K-Lite CODEC pack is a popular option, I noticed someone has recommended it. Or, you can use decoding software to transcode your file with HEVC codecs (they are generally MKV files). Online converters like cloudconvert, zamar, freeconvert, etc. popular offline tools like FFmpeg, Handbrake, WonderFox HD Video Converter Factory, Any video converter, and so more!
