Hibernate causes error

I like to use hibernate when closing the lid of my laptop. However, switching hibernate on (powercfg /hibernate on) causes a problem when coming back from sleep and hibernate. The start up from these states does not give the windows start up background on screen and just gets stuck; I have to press the power button three time to get the background screen and facial recognition action/password box. With hibernate off there's no problem. Is this a general problem with hibernate?

do you have fast start up enabled
control panel > power options

please try disabling fast start up and then try hibernate.

I got rid of hibernate and just use sleep. It's much faster to recover, and since I have a UPS, a power failure isn't a major risk. While hibernate worked, it took a lot longer as it basically goes through what looks like a complete boot. Sleep, OTOH, wakes up the computer and I have the PIN screen in a flash.
