Windows 11
Hi. New to Windows 11 - just installed.

I have a few apps that I would like to keep pinned to the taskbar next to the start button. I would like it so that when I click on them or other apps that these pinned apps do not move on the taskbar and that all apps open in a space past these pinned apps. Basically I would like to lock these apps into place. Basic windows 10 type functionality.

Also, is there anyway to set apps in this position like you can in the other windows os'es? I forgot the name of this location on the taskbar or what that kind of setup is called. There is a trick to do it on windows 10 so it is like previous windows os. Thanks.

Added: I think it is called quick launch.

I don't know if it can be done using Windows 11 but it can be done using 3rd party software StartAllBack, which has a Taskbar option to move the Start icon to the left and keep taskbar icons 'Together with Start button'.

Is there a way to keep the taskbar fixed on the right so that the icons don't mix with open apps?

Please explain in some more words how you would want the tasbar to look like.

Or post some screenshots how it's now and what your problems with that format are.

"Windows 10"? But Windows 10 behaves in that regard exactly as Windows 11 does: when you start an application using one if the pinned icons, the application "expands" right in place where the icon was, pushing aside other pinned icons.

all apps open in a space past these pinned apps[...] Added: I think it is called quick launch.
I understand what you mean, but that would be Windows 7 functionality, not Windows 10. This would probably require a third-party taskbar replacement.

I read your question several time, but I don't understand it. It sounds like you are describing something that has existed for a long time and is readily doable without any extra effort or extra applications. What am I missing?

I have been using Windows 11 on my laptop since December 2021 and my install is fully up to date. I have never missed an update. Below is a clip of my task bar. These are all the apps that I want quick access to from the task bar. Any app with a underbar are currently running and active. The one of the far right, Task Manager, is just something that I start up and run all the time. It is not pinned to the Task Bar, but I get it from the task bar. If I start any more applications, they appear to the right of all of the permanent task bar apps. Other apps that I might need, like Cygwin64, GTKWave, MS Word, MS Excel, etc,, are immediately available to me from the Start Menu. And, there are a few odd things that I access directly from my desktop.

None of the apps on the task bar move and stay blocked to the left. On the right of the task bar is a few indicators, like the date, battery charge, etc.. If I click on them, they just open and are marked with a underscore. Any extra applications that are run are simply marked on the taskbar, to the right of all the other apps.

Also, I have never had any updates change this. Am I missing something in your question?
