I bought a new laptop yesterday and that has inspired me to ask a question that I've been meaning to ask for years: how do I maximize the life of my battery?
I mostly use my laptop at home on my desk although I occasionally bring it to coding sessions at Meetups or even out in my back yard. When it's on my desk, it's always plugged in. When I'm at Meetups, there are not always outlets handy so I'll use the battery if I can't plug in.
I really don't know if that's a good approach to maximize my battery life (which was 2 hours on the Dell that this new laptop is replacing) but it seemed reasonable to me. But now that I've got a laptop with a substantially longer battery life (according to the reviews I've seen) I wonder if it would be wise to take a different approach, like only plugging it in when the battery is low and needs a recharge? I really know nothing about battery chemistry or electronics so I'd appreciate the guidance of people with more knowledge.
