Hello All.

Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong forum.

I'll be getting a new laptop in a few days, and I want to know if there is a way to prevent OneDrive from activating during setup?

Any tips and advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I think there is a option to use or not OneDrive during setup, if not you can always uninstall it after installation.

Let me show you how to stop OneDrive sync in the Windows operating system.

In the video, he says that the method shown won't work on Home version. Since my new laptop will have Home, then I guess this won't work for me.

You have the option during the OOBE. "Only store files on this device"

Even if you make a mistake you can change the settings later.

Yes you can avoid your personal folders being in Onedrive if you use a local account. Not only can you avoid Onedrive by using a local account, but you can also avoid your drives being automatically encrypted as is the norm now with modern standby devices using Windows Home.

Here's what to do during OOBE setup to create a local account.
1. Make sure you are not connected to a network.
2. When you see the Let's connect you to a network screen , press Shift + F10. This launches a command prompt.
Now run the following command at the command prompt:
oobe\BypassNRO
(
If that does not work for you, try typing MSOOBE\BYPASSNRO
3. The system will restart. Select your region and keyboard layout once again. But this time, on the Let's connect you to a network screen, you will see a new "I don't have internet" option." Select it.
4. click the "Continue with limited setup" option.
5. Create a local user account & password and answer security questions..

I find it unbelievable the land mines you have to sidestep to not accept using MS services.
Gettin to be a dictatorship!

They ought to update the EULA to include: "If you don't use OneDrive, you can't use Windows"

Hello, :alien:

Usually, you'll see this screen below during Windows Setup. You'll have to click/tap on the small Only save files to this PC link instead of Next button to not sync with OneDrive.

You can manually turn on/off back up to OneDrive at anytime though.

The only thing I do is disable onedrive at startup and ignore the login. It is installed but not bothering me.

Thanks for the tips guys.

I don't mind if it is installed, I just don't want it to start syncing. My last setup (Windows 10) was frustrating due to OneDrive creating its own folders and replacing the standard (local) file directory.

They ought to update the EULA to include: "If you don't use OneDrive, you can't use Windows"
If MS reads your post they'll probably include that in Windows 12. MS needs to realize that not everyone wants, needs or can use OneDrive.

It should be the ther way around. One should have to click on the option to Save files to Onedrive instead of having to click on Only save files to this PC.
Yeah..., it would be less frustrating if the options were more obvious, but, that's not how clever Marketing works! 🤷‍♂️

Make it an option most people will miss and once you have them, Hit them in the wallet.
