How do I stop MSFT from "reloading" old links in Edge?

There must be a setting or something that will stop Microsoft from reloading links that are many years old in the Edge Favorites. I keep deleting them and that sticks for a while but then something triggers a reload of all the old and often extinct links. I think it happens when I startup an old system that had been dormant for some time. Anyway, I would appreciate some help in making it stop once and for all! Thanks in advance.

One thing it could be is a synchronise setting in Edge, Now that it's Chromium Based which provides that option on my Browser Google Chrome. Here it's tied to my login email address - whatever device I open the browser on the favorites etc are the same

Yeah, it does a fine job of sync'ing all my computers with new links etc. It does such a good job that all my systems pick up the ancient links that I have to delete again and again. The good part is Edge syncs all the other computers with the deleted links. BUT... later (days, weeks, sometimes months) all the old links reappear. I cannot believe I'm the only one with this problem.

I guess I must be the only person with this issue. Today, once again, Edge has suddenly included stuff from years ago under the "Other Favorites" tab. It also picks up links to old stuff that was in the "Favorites bar". It seems like this happens when I'm "playing" with an old system that I want to keep updated with the latest Windows 10 updates and fixes. Help! It is a pain and time consuming to have to go through all the saved links and Favorites bar and delete the stuff from years ago!!

No, you're not the only one! It happened to me a couple of weeks ago - I didn't realise what was going on and deleted a load of favourites only to discover I had deleted some I wanted to keep. So yes, it's a pain. I hope someone can suggest a solution or work around.

Dell says this system is not Windows 11 capable, but Microsoft seems happy with it.

The work around I use is a folder (with subfolders) on my desktop with my favorites (y)

Thinking about how Windows works at low level it may be an idea to check the registry copy one of the "returning " favourites, and open the Registry editor, [Make a backup of the registry somewhere safe, to protect against accidental deletes/changes],

Do a search for the copied data and then you can ask for information on the area concerned - you can also do your normal delete routine and check if the entries are still there or if they are duplicated somewhere and are a form of backup and is triggered by some routine occasional activity or action

It just happened again this morning. Links from 10 years ago popped up. I spent the better part of an hour deleting all the obsolete links. If Microsoft does not have a solution or does not care about this "bug" what alternatives do I have - switch to another Browser, change my Microsoft Account and at least only get current links popping up that I need to delete or just learn to live with a boat load of garbage? I'm not even sure what triggers this "link dump" into all my systems that are using the same Microsoft Account but I think it is when I turn on a system that has been idle for a month or so and Window's Update goes to work.

I was hoping that someone on this forum had some leverage with Microsoft so that this issue would be addressed. Is there a good phone number or link @ Microsoft that I could access and complain daily about this problem?

I give up on Microsoft Edge. I thought I followed the procedure posted on the Microsoft site but... no success.

I have 10 computers some with W11 and some still running W10. I Spent a couple of hours signing Edge off all the systems except the one I wanted to "fix" the Favorites. I then fixed the Favorites one more time on the one machine and cleared the Cloud and got the corrected Favorites stored on the Cloud.

All was going okay other than each system seemed to want a different way to sign back on to Edge. Some worked as advertised. Signed Edge back on and all was well - both W10 and W11 systems - picked up the edited Favorites. Some I had to reinstall because Edge got uninstalled (W11) others made me uninstall and reinstall Edge because I could not turn Sync back on (Microsoft Account being used by another system) W10 system.

Unfortunately, on the sixth machine (W10) I had to do the uninstall/reinstalled Edge routine (the Microsoft Account Issue) and for some unknown reason when I signed in Edge and turned Sync back on it slammed all the 10 year old stuff on all the systems! I guess Edge is storing all the Favorites somewhere on the local system and takes it upon itself to use them on a reinstall - sometimes!

I have been a loyal Microsoft browser user forever - unless someone somewhere can explain what the heck is going on I on my way to using a different browser!
