Hi folks
I've added a physical *ex Linux formatted") disk to a Windows 11 VM. Diskpart showed as OFFLINE -- so making it ONLINE in diskpart was easy enough (select disk xx online disk).

Now I've got a message when I try and run the clean command --- error disk is write protected.

There's no R/W hardware notch or anything - and on Linux Read/Write works 100% so there's no hardware error.
Any idea how to remove the write restriction

Jimbo, try this:

Open diskpart.

Select the disk in question.

Run attributes disk clear readonly

Let me know if that helps!

I should have been able to remember that though -- maybe as one ages "Those little grey cells somehow need re-juvenating !!!.

I'm cloning 5 Windows VM's to a physical external 1 GB SSD NVME on a NVME->USBC adapter -- I like these as they are only about double the size of a decent Cuban cigar, and are really fast if I need to carry portable data - much better than 2.5 inch classical SSD's or other usb spinners.

Thanks again.

Cheers

Good news: They sell plenty of things to rejuv the grey cells.
Bad news: They don't work. :D

When you just took a pill and can't remember if you just took it.... that's the beginning.
When you can't remember what you ate yesterday, that's the middle.
When you can't remember what we're talking about... start writing your will and remember I'm your closet relative. :D

Perhaps the Chinese will come up with something - or maybe the scammers can start working on "another get rich quick project" !!!

Anyway off for Lunch now with some Belgian colleagues.

Brussels has some really great eateries and brilliant beer too. -- This current gig is unbelievably "lucrative and simple" as non EU but EEA citizen I actually have to pay income tax -- but at a rate of 4.2% after allowances e.g travel, hotels, etc but hardly a problem !!!-- are all essentially "public sector gigs" like this -- more boozing than working !!"!!. I've done others in loads of places in private sector and work much tougher - and as an external you had to work even harder than "the Permies".
