the pc and tablet are connected to the same router, the pc can stream to the smart tv downstairs over wifi..
but when i try to cast the screen from the samsung Tab A using smart sharing it cannot find the pc. and the pc connect app reports this device does not support miracast so you cant project to it wirelessly. .
i suppose fitting a wi fi dongle to the pc would be a fix. but is there a way i can cast to the pc in its present state? i ie wired connection to the router.
thanks.
i am a bit basic with my knowledge so might need things explaining in an idiot proof fashion.

There are applications that will allow the pc to act as a chromecast device, and then you can cast from tablet to pc.

If you are wanting to cast videos to pc, there are lots of apps - I use Plex.

It will cast videos but not the screen contents e.g. Home screen

You would have to use a chromecast from MS Store.

If the PC WiFi card does not support miracast, you will have to use a third party program. There are several available if you google it.

You will need to enable "Projecting to this PC" app on your Windows 11. And then use SmartView app on the tablet to cast to Win 11 PC. You should see your PC listed in the available devices.

Follow this tut I found last year.. Not sure if @Brink has a tut for this one but I did not find one when I was looking for it here last year. Maybe it is good to have our version of this tutorial here.

my pc is not connected to the network wirelessly. it is wired. so when i try to cast to it wirelessly i get errors saying this device does not support mircast. when i go to settings- projecting to this pc i get the error imediately. i want to know if i can project to this pc, wirelessly to the router and then via the ethernet wire to the pc
i can cast or stream from pc to other devices such as tv.
why not the opposite direction?

Yes. It doesn't matter. As long as you are on the same network. Wired or wireless is not an issue. As long as your tablet is connected to the same network as the PC. My PC is also wired.

Like I said, wired PC connection is not an issue. If you want to test if it matters, why don't you connect your PC via wifi and see? Your Windows 11 PC probably does not support Miracast. But I tested it myself and it works with my 2017 version of Tab A.

Like I said, wired PC connection is not an issue. If you want to test if it matters, why don't you connect your PC via wifi and see? Your Windows 11 PC probably does not support Miracast. But I tested it myself and it works with my 2017 version of Tab A.
what does a pc need to support miracast?

a quick bit of googling suggests that a wireless adapter needs to be fitted to the pc. just found someone else who has the smae connection set up as mine. does your pc have a wireless adapter/card/dongle?
