The icons for menu items of programs and shortcuts to the programs are usually contained within the programs, seldom contain more than one or two. Last I saw it done years ago involved creating custom icons, storing them in a file such as %SystemRoot%\System32\SHELL32.dll and then in Properties of each icon use Change icon and point to that new file.

You can easily download custom icons from the web. Put them all in a folder where ever you like. I have mine in Pictures.
1. Unpin any of the icons on your taskbar that you do not like.
2. On desktop create a new shortcut for each of the apps you had pinned, right click it, select properties, select change icon, point it to your folder where you saved the new icons, pick an icon, Apply OK.
2. Right click on the new desktop shortcut, select pin to taskbar
4. You can then delete from the desktop if you want.

storing them in a file such as %SystemRoot%\System32\SHELL32.dll
Not as long as the new file doesn't replace the original.

I think that's gonna be an option.

about system32 write up
I have no clue what this means. If it means you want written instructions it the same as above except rather than pointing to your custom icon folder, you use one of the icons in the default system32 folder. If you do not point to another folder when choosing an icon, you will see just the icons stored in system32 by default.
