How to connect nvme discs on motherboard ?

The motherboard has two slots PCIe 4.0 for nvme discs. One from the CPU and one from the chipset.
Connect a disc with Windows to the CPU and a disc with games to the chipset, or vice versa?

From your notebook configuration, I see you have two nvmes. One Gen 4 & 3.
Are you planning on updating those units or will you be using the same ones?
Are both slots Gen 4 or is one Gen 3 ?
It would be preferable to have the OS on the 4 lane to the CPU and the storage
on the chipset.

M.2_1 (From CPU) supports up to PCIe 4.0 x4 , supports 22110/2280/2260/2242 devices
M.2_2 (From Chipset) supports up to PCIe 4.0 x4 / SATA mode, supports 2280/2260/2242 devices

And two PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD (v 1.4) discs.

Maybe you should have specified as such as this is not what is described in the "My Computer" listing which is what
we would go by if no other info was available.
I still stand by the OS on the CPU and Storage on the chipset.
Could we also have the make and model of the nvmes in question.

What motherboard is it?

Not that it matters, but I wondered whether any B760 had a PCI-E 5.0 slot off the CPU. (Like some Z790 boards.) I was unable to find an example.

I doubt that it makes a significant difference, but I'd put the OS M.2 drive in the slot that runs off the CPU rather than the chipset.

The B760 boards have PCI-E 5.0 X16 graphics slots.

It's not clear that any have a PCI-E 5.0 M.2 slot, even though the lanes could be provided by the Gen12 or Gen13 CPU.

Some Z690 or Z790 boards have a PCI-E 5.0 M.2 slot. Some limit the CPU slot to PCI-E 4.0. If an M.2 drive of any PCI-E version is used in a PCI-E 5.0 M.2 slot, the graphics slot drops back to X8 (rather than X16). The boards that limit the CPU M.2 slot don't do that.

That is the list of PCI-E slots. (Which doesn't include the M.2 slots.) The manual claims that both M.2 slots are PCI-E 4.0.

As you know, M2_1 is the one off the CPU.

a) It's what I'd use for the OS drive.

b) I doubt that it matters much which of the PCI-E 4.0 M.2 slots you use. Maybe it'd be detectable in synthetic benchmarks.
