How to disable hover highlights on the desktop only?

i need to disable the highlight that happens when you hover over files or folders
preferably only on your desktop and not file explorer

is there any way?

You could select to use Double-click to open an item (single-click to select) below instead so hovering on an item will not select it.

sorry for the misunderstanding again but my mouse is hovering over the folder, which gives it a bit of an highlight, the screenshot just didn't include the mouse. single clicking should still select it but i don't want hovering over it to give the highlight.

maybe i could edit the aero.msstyles, but i would need to know which class/part/state in msstyleEditor controls it so i can replace the images with transparent ones

I'm not aware of a way to disable the highlight on hover.

No offense, but why is this a "thing"? Maybe it's just me, but I can't see this being a problem.

Mine does highlight with hover... but I can't SEE it.

I have things set to activate on double click.
Single click (but not hover), will noticeably highlight the item, when I move the cursor off the object.

In File Explorer options...
