How to disable (not just hide) tray icon when app gui doesn't have that option?

It would help to know which app we're talking about. :-)
Some apps, etc., do have a toggle for the tray icon, but have them cleverly hidden.

DirectVobSub is the current offender. Older versions had an option, but in a recent update, the option seems to have vanished.

I'd bet it's still in there somewhere.
It may be in the tray icon itself.
I've seen some programs where the option is in the installer.

It may be, but I'm 99.9% certain I've looked, many times over, and have not found it.

I need to hide icons without them going into the overflow menu also. is there no editor for this? surprising things like startallback don't have it.
