Solved How to get ESU (Windows 10) with a local account?

Hi again, it seems that some of the programs on my friend’s computer stop working when logged in to a Microsoft account. Can’t we use a local account to get the ESU for Windows 10? He won’t be able to get a new Windows 11 PC until the end of this year.

I do not believe you can get ESU without using a MS account and it must be administrator. Windows 10 Extended Security Updates | Microsoft Windows
If he will get a Widows 11 device by the end of the year, it doesn't make sense to pay for a year's worth of extended protection.
There's always this option. Option 1 Rufus method is preferred. Only hard requirement that cannot be bypassed with any method is in 25h2 his CPU must support SSE 4.2.
Earlier versions of 11 do not have this hard requirement. If his CPU supports SSE4.2, Rufus works great to bypass all the others.

You will need to login with an MS account as an administrator to enroll in the ESUs. Once enrolled, you can go back to using a local account. Worked for me on a Windows 10 PC.

I agree with wabbit. You just need the MSAccount during the enrollment procedure and every so often thereafter.
- Users in the EEA will need to log in to their MSAccounts every 60 days to remain enrolled.
- No specific frequency has been announced for users in the USA or UK.

Nobody in US, UK or the EEA needs to pay for the ESU.

So we need to log back in to Microsoft every couple of days to check for updates?

I used this powershell script to enroll a couple of win10 machines for ESU. Both use a local account and neither has ever been associated with my MS account.
