Ok so we have ways of un-grouping taskbar buttons now.

What I want as well is a feature that "7+ Taskbar Tweaker" has: being able to drag and re-order those buttons by right clicking then dragging them.

I'm using the latest build now, no problems. Because I installed StartIsBack++ to replace the Start Menu and Search Box. Doing that hack and/or replace the explorer.exe without using 3rd party Start Menu, will gives you more problems.

You can use Linkbar application. I posted the link in this forum somewhere.

Linkbar does not have that feature. I just tried it. Again, what I want to be able to do is drag / re-arrange the open windows' buttons on the taskbar. 7+ Taskbar Tweaker allowed this by right clicking on the open window's button then dragging it.

The easiest solution I found is to just use ExplorerPatcher. Then 7+ Taskbar Tweaker will work as expected on top of this. For me, I only tweaked the taskbar behaviour and kept everything else untouched as I am ok with the new changes elsewhere in Windows 11.

I dont know why they nerfed the taskbar so badly By comparison now the KDE taskbar is highly customisable.

How do you install ExplorerPatcher? I can't find an install file.

ExplorerPatcher just got updated with a new experimental installation method which I haven't tried yet. The existing installation method still works and is easy enough to do.

Installation:
1: Grab the latest dxgi.dll from the releases section here (scan it with Total Virus if you want to be safe, the latest version is clean)
2. Copy the file into C:\Windows (ie: the full path to the file will be C:\Windows\dxgi.dll)
3. Open the command prompt and execute this all in one command: taskkill /F /IM explorer.exe && explorer.exe
4. Once the explorer process is restarted, it should download some additional required files directly from the Microsoft servers the first time this is done (a notification should appear to indicate once this process is starting and also once it has finished).
5. If all goes well, installation is now complete.

Configuration:
1. Hold the windows key and then press the x key. Then select the Properties option in the opened menu. Note: The 'Enable Windows 10 taskbar' tweak needs to be enabled. Everything else is up to you.
2. After this, 7+ Taskbar Tweaker should work as normal (make sure you are using the latest beta version too, which currently is v5.11.3.3)
3. Further instructions and details can be found here

Issues: On my setup, I find that some of the taskbar tweaks do not work when starting up the system (ie: taskbar window for the same programs are still grouped together and the middle mouse click tweak to close a window does not work). The workaround is to manually run 7+ Taskbar Tweaker each time Windows starts up. Perhaps 7+ Taskbar Tweaker when set to autostart starts up too quickly before ExplorerPatcher is loaded?

This worked. 7+ Taskbar Tweaker now works on my Windows 11 install. I also get the benefits of ExplorerPatcher.

Thanks!

Everything was hillarious when this game just released. Now it's just like nothing. Windows 11 and all DLC's that might come are not sexy anymore. I'm done.

So how do we go about updating ExplorerPatcher?

I tried booting into safe mode and deleting dxgi.dll then rebooting and running the command above again, but it didn't update ExplorerPatcher.

Hi Darien.

If you are struggling with Explorer Patcher, I would strongly suggest that you use StartAllBack which basically does the same thing, but automates it all for you.

I tried that, but it doesn't work with 7+ Taskbar Tweaker.
Maybe it's time to give 7+ Taskbar Tweaker away and move forward.
You cannot keep updating your operating system and hoping that it operates the same as the old one.

There comes a time for us all to move on, but there are some things in Windows 11 that stink badly.
Either stick with Windows 10 for now or suffer with Windows 11.

All my computers, apart from my one test computer will stay on Windows 10, because in my opinion, Windows 11 is a step backwards in functionality. It's an attempt to dumb it down to the lowest common denominator, at experienced users expense.

Just some friendly advice. 😀
