OS
Windows 11
Latest W 11 HOME x64 version 21H2

On W 10 I was able to open two instances (windows) of File Explorer by clicking on FE taskbar Icon and on start menu.
It does not work like that on W 11.
So far I could not find another way.

Hi,
Never used it but wasn't multiple tabs added to win-10 explorer
It would be odd if it weren't in 11 to maybe tinker in folder options.

Go to C:\Windows\explore.exe ...and right click that and choose: Send to > Desktop (create shortcut)

THEN right click that new desktop shortcut and choose: Pin to Taskbar.
Even though it looks like the File Explorer shortcut that's already there, it will behave differently.
THIS File Explorer icon will open a new instance of File Explorer, each time you click on it.

You can then click the other File Explorer icon on the Taskbar and choose: Unpin from Taskbar.

You can also delete the no longer necessary File Explorer icon from the desktop.

Send pizza. :D

On W 10 I could pin File Explorer on start menu. I had a shortcut Icon on taskbar too.
In that way I opened F E with taskbar then another F E windows from start menu.
I found easier that way to move files from disk x to disk Y.
This system does not work on W 11. clicking on start menu F E Icon after opening F E from taskbar just wont open another instance.

Nope F E shortcut does not open another instance when F E is already open.
I'll need to see if I can revert to W 10 start menu. There was a tutorial on this forum but it does not work anymore

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe <---- Command Prompt
C:\Windows\System32\dxdiag.exe
C:\Windows\System32\Taskmgr.exe <---- Task Manager

C:\Windows\regedit.exe
C:\Windows\notepad.exe

Well... you get the general idea.

Works for me (dev chan). Don't know what I am doing different o if it is dev channel vs. release. In fact opening multiple instances from the pinned taskbar opens multiple windows.

I do have "Launch folder Windows in a separate process" set.

I'm on RTM and it works for me too.

Just don't be a dummy and do like I did. I opened about 50 instances of File Explorer, and it overloaded the comp.
I had to restart manually, with the case's reset button. LOL

I was opening them so fast, it reminded me of Windows XP solitaire win. :D

After watching the video, above....

Here's all the original Windows XP games. They all work except for the ones that require the Microsoft Windows XP games servers to still be... up, like Online Checkers for example.

I like as little clutter as possible on the desktop, but adding This PC to the desktop, via Themes, seams the only way at the moment. I followed this video

BTW is anyone knows why I have those taskbar options greyed out?
BTW taskbar on multiple display once hidden there it stay. The only way I get it to resurface is by pointing mouse arrow under bottom of display then right click.

Redirect to appropriate thread please if I'm overstepping here.
