I installed the release of MS PC Manager and it didn't offer an option to either install or not install a desktop icon. I keep it on the Start Menu. Every time I start Windows 1 I get the icon on the desktop in addition to the Start Menu. I right click and delete and it reappears at the next start up.

This one has me beat and I cant figure out how to get rid of it permanently. All ideas much appreciated.

Try Revo Uninstaller to remove the PC Manager. It should work fine. It is a program held with high regard by members in this forum.

It may be in “All Programs” or “Windows Apps”

Thanks. I'm familiar with Revo Uninstaller. I just don't want to load the damm icon to the desktop all the time.

My apologies, I confused you wanting to remove the icon with wanting to remove the app.
Someone might know how to remove it via the registry.

I haven't used it myself but after reading the following thread I don't think I'll install it.

I don't know how to stop the desktop icon reappearing but I would just uninstall the app and the problem is solved. The app isn't essential.

If you really want to keep the app then try stopping the process then stop it from running at startup and also running in the background.

In support of my post #7 the author of the following site "Strongly recommends ignoring this app....": -

A quote from this article: - "Also, you can configure this app to run at startup, ironically, and “join the Microsoft PC Manager Pop-up Plan” and help Microsoft optimize this app’s pop-up management feature."

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Thank You. It seems to work out well. I am using PC Manager because every time I use CCleaner I wind up losing some passwords even in Chrome and I couldn't figure out how to configure it to not touch them.

I gave up on Ccleaner after it gained a bad reputation. I don't know how its reputation stands these days but I use 'Privacy Eraser free' instead and have never had any trouble with it. I believe it has good reviews. To stop Privacy Eraser erasing passwords make sure 'Saved passwords' is unchecked in the 'Browser' tab.

The microsoft pc manager is actually pretty concerning how bad it is. I would not recommend using it. It has some questionable signs of being not well thought out or reviewed properly by microsoft itself.

I finally found an older beta version that does a decent job and doesn't put a shortcut on the desktop unless you want it to.

I know CCleaner very well indeed, having used it since its inception and having been active on the CCleaner forums, so my first advice to new users of CCleaner is UNCHECK EVERYTHING that's checked in the Custom Clean categories. I especially think you must have "Saved Passwords" checked in at least one browser's listings there. In all of Custom Clean, I never have more than about ten check marks, and it does a great job. I've never lost a password to CCleaner, ever. Give it a chance, with conservative checkmarks, and NEVER use Health Check. Health Check is destructive. Also, I'd suggest you completely avoid the Optimizer and the Driver Updater.
