Solved How to remove false update notice

I have update notice for KB5010795, but it was already installed on 1/18.
How do I remove the notice?

You could reset Windows Update using the method below to hopefully clear it.

Windows update may display that it had already installed an update when it never installed the update.

How did you check to see whether it was or was not installed?





Neither KB5001716 nor KB4023057 had been installed on 9/2/21 and 9/4/21.

Thanks Brink but it didn't clear it. I wonder if I uninstall the update then let it reinstall again.

Zbook, as I noted in my post, it is shown as installed on 1/18

If you go ahead and click on Download/Install, does it install and not show again?

If I click on it, nothing happens.

It gets deeper. I looked at uninstalling the update (to reinstall it) but its not listed in the Control Panel/Programs and features/View Installed Updates.

If you click on the "X" to close the KB5010795 update notice and click on "Check for updates", does it reappear again?

I tried that yesterday. I clicked on X and it was not shown and check for updates did not make it appear. The PC was powered off overnight and the update reappeared this morning on boot.

I have a 1/12 Macrium full disc image but I hate to revert.

I suppose you could try downloading and installing the MSU file for KB5010795 at the bottom of the first post below to see if it may clear it.

This is the file that downloads. What do I do with it?

Looks like the MSU didn't finish downloading, and needs to be accepted/approved first.

I tried it again, downloaded for over 1 hour and never completed.
I'm on Spectrum cable Internet with 100Mbps downlink. Should have completed downloading.

Back to square 1.

Please run setupdiag: (post a share link with all generated files)


Please open the menu to uninstall windows updates.

See if you can identify the update as installed.

If it is displayed as an update that can be uninstalled then it was installed.

If it is not displayed as an update that can be uninstalled then it was not installed.



Other methods for confirmation:

administrative command prompt:

wmic qfe list brief /format:table

dism /image:C:\ /get-packages (run when using Windows RE)

Update to Brink's suggestion. I tried the download again and after 3 hours it completed. After bypassing security alert about the file, it installed.
I now show two instances of it being installed but still back to update showing its available as my original post.

Please post images of the these commands with results:

wmic qfe list brief /format:table

dism /online /get-packages

(the dism command results may display a lot of files)

As requested. The DISM shows both the 1/18 and 1/22 installs.

The way I isually sort this is to delete the softwaredistribution folder and then it isially sorts itself out.
