Windows update may display that it had already installed an update when it never installed the update.

How did you check to see whether it was or was not installed?

Neither KB5001716 nor KB4023057 had been installed on 9/2/21 and 9/4/21.

It gets deeper. I looked at uninstalling the update (to reinstall it) but its not listed in the Control Panel/Programs and features/View Installed Updates.

I tried that yesterday. I clicked on X and it was not shown and check for updates did not make it appear. The PC was powered off overnight and the update reappeared this morning on boot.

I tried it again, downloaded for over 1 hour and never completed.
I'm on Spectrum cable Internet with 100Mbps downlink. Should have completed downloading.

Back to square 1.

Please open the menu to uninstall windows updates.

See if you can identify the update as installed.

If it is displayed as an update that can be uninstalled then it was installed.

If it is not displayed as an update that can be uninstalled then it was not installed.



Other methods for confirmation:

dism /image:C:\ /get-packages (run when using Windows RE)

Update to Brink's suggestion. I tried the download again and after 3 hours it completed. After bypassing security alert about the file, it installed.
I now show two instances of it being installed but still back to update showing its available as my original post.second update.png

The way I isually sort this is to delete the softwaredistribution folder and then it isially sorts itself out.
