Hi,

Is there a way to reset the Left Folder Pane menu folders back to their default order?

For example, I remember that I had the Junk Items folder right below the Inbox folder. Then right below the Junk Email folder, I had the Archive folder.

It is now mixed up because maybe I accidentally had done something to have these Folders not in the correct order in a way I like them to be.

If there is no option to Reset these back to the Default order, then I will just manually move them Up or Down.

Not a huge problem, but I was just wondering if there is an option to Reset these back to their default order.

Google is your friend. I hope this helps.

In the new Outlook for Windows, the default menu order generally refers to the navigation pane on the left edge and the folder list within the Mail view.

Default Navigation Pane (Left Edge)
The navigation bar is fixed on the left edge in the new Outlook and generally includes:
  • Mail
  • Calendar
  • People (Contacts)
  • Tasks
  • Other apps like OneDrive, Word, etc., can be shown here.

Default Folder List Order
By default, the new Outlook groups special folders at the top and arranges all other folders alphabetically in the folder pane.
  • Special folders appear first:
    • Inbox
    • Drafts
    • Sent Items
    • ...and other system folders.
  • Custom/personal folders follow in alphabetical (A to Z) order by default, unless you have specifically enabled custom ordering.

Default Email Sorting Order
Within a specific folder (like your Inbox), the default sort order for the message list is by Received date in descending order (newest emails at the top).

How to Adjust the Order
You can customize the folder and email sorting order:
  • To change folder order: Go to the View tab > Folder pane > and select either Order folders A to Z or Custom order.
  • To change email sort order: In the upper-right corner above the message list, select the Sort button (usually says "By Date") and choose your preferred criteria (Date, From, Subject, etc.) and sort order (Newest on top or Oldest on top).
