Using Edge, when I go to www.google.com I'm now seeing "Select a certificate for authentication" at the site. Should I select one? Instead, I can cancel or x out and all is well. But the prompt always returns whenever I return to google.com. Is there some way to stop this prompt?

1. Clear all saved client certificates in Edge

Edge → Settings → Privacy, search, and services → Security → Manage certificatesCheck the Personal tab.If anything is there that you don’t use, remove it.

2. Disable “Automatic certificate selection”

Edge → Settings → Privacy, search, and services → SecurityTurn off:“Automatically select certificates”

3. Check if a work/school account is attached

Edge → Settings → ProfilesIf a work/school account is present, it may be pushing certificate policies.

4. Check Windows certificate store

Run: certmgr.msc Look under:

  • Personal → Certificates
  • Trusted Root Certification AuthoritiesRemove anything suspicious or enterprise-related.

5. If on a corporate network, HTTPS inspection may be the cause

In that case, the prompt is expected and only the admin can change it.
