How to stop Windows 11 24H2 from forcing 'Automatically manage color for apps' to 'On' when switching bpc mode?

Each time I switch the color bit depth of my displays from 8bpc to 12bpc Windows forces "Automatically manage color for apps" to On, which makes colors bad.

1735497517228.webp

I have to switch from 8bpc to 12bpc all the time because my projector's 3D mode only works in 8bpc, but I use 12bpc for all the rest, and it gets very tedious having to go to the "Color management" and manually disable this option all the time.

Is there a way to fully disable this "automatically manage color for apps" or stopping it from defaulting to "On" when switching to 10 or 12bpc?

I tried that, but in Windows 24H2 it is totally ignoring that key, because it keeps forcibly enabling that stupid "automatically manage color for apps" despite the key being set to 0.

I saw the same thing.

A (tedious?) alternative: use the compatibility feature for apps that you don't want to be automatically color managed:

compatibility.webp

Note that this is for the Microsoft Edge browser. Microsoft's ACM seems to fail to detect that Microsoft Edge is color managed. That's a regular charlie foxtrot.

With that option set, you can leave ACM on.

A question: 12bit display? Is that a thing? (I'm using 10.)

My GPU (on system listed below) can do 12 bit color depth. I use 10 bit though because my Panasonic Mini-LED TV doesn't support 12 bit.

More about bit color depth here.

Interesting. The FV34U is specified as a 10 bit monitor, and even that is through the use of FRC.

I don't get a 12 bit option in nVidia Control Panel. See "My Computer" for System 1, if you like.

Sorry to necro this but has anyone found a solution for this problem?
Its driving me nuts that it always re-enables itself after every change and every driver update.

No worries. I still would like to find a solution, but haven't found one yet. Microsoft really outdid themselves this time with their legendary stupidity.

I got an update for the NVIDIA App today and there are new Options and since enabling "Override the reference mode", I could restart the driver, change settings all day long and ACM stayed disabled. Maybe NVIDIA just released the solution for us.

It was introduced with version 11.0.3.218
