My network is protected with a corporate-grade hardware firewall. I don't need/want to enable Windows software firewall on my win11 pc. However, when I disable the firewall, I get the nag message "Turn on Windows Firewall: Windows Firewall is turned off. Tap or click to turn it on."

Whats the trick to disable this nagging message?

Hi,
Might be able to tweak this script it includes defender in it to so you may not want that one ?
Code:
rem Disable Warnings due to Firewall / Defender being disabled
reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Notifications\Settings\Windows.SystemToast.SecurityAndMaintenance /v Enabled /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
reg add "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows Defender Security Center\Notifications" /v DisableNotifications /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

Thanks. How do I disable the notification without also disabling real-time virus-checking notifications? I still want to get notifications when there's a virus. I just don't want to be prompted anymore about the firewall being turned on.

EDIT: Sorry let me try:

Yes, except I don't want to disable defender AV. I'm only disabling the firewall. None of the registry settings made any difference since they don't apply to the notification mentioned.

I wish someone I knew how to disable this annoying message. It now notifies me more often than just on boot up.
If third party applications are disabling this notification then it must in the registry somewhere.

These days, actually for a long time now, hardware/firmware firewalls are the normal now. It's not 2005, where many still had dial-up, which usually requires a software firewall.

Except maybe for some single-port routers, from the dark ages of cable!

I think part of the problem is many people still think they need to have Windows firewall enabled on all their PC's even though they have have a perfectly fine hardware firewall on their Internet router.

So far the best I have been able to do is run Malwarebytes Windows Firewall Control and set the profile to No Filtering. Every time I make an image with Macrium or do anything using Windows Update it reverts to Low Filtering and I have to go into the profile etc..

On the notifications I don't know why they are not individually selectable. Turning on Do Not Disturb Mode seems like overkill.

Oh, and I tried a 3rd party free firewall. It did not get rid of the annoyance, just added more glitches as they fought ever control.

Solution for Windows 11 PRO using Group Policy:

Open Group Policy Editor: Search for and open the Local Group Policy Editor by typing gpedit.msc in the search bar.
Navigate to Firewall Settings by going to the following path:
Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security

Click on Windows Defender Firewall on the left, Click on Windows Defender Firewall PROPERTIES on the right.
Then under the Domain, Private, and Public Profile tabs, Turn "Firewall State" to OFF for all profiles!

This will prevent further reminders to turn on Windows Firewall because Group Policy overrides those notifications.
