How to undo Bitlocker from another pc's SSD drive so I can use it on my pc as external drive.

My old pc was an HP laptop that had 2-1 TB HD's. One of them was a M.2 NVMe SCSI HD. Instead of throwing out the drives, I purchased an enclosure for the SSD to use as an external drive on my current pc by USB. I went to initialize, set a drive letter and format the drive, only to find that I can't get to the drive. It is recognized in Device Manager as MOGOOD SCSI Disk Device. Computer management shows the drive as Disk 5, Unknown, Not Initialized. Initializing disk is greyed out. It does not show up as a drive under File Explorer for Devices and Drives
I then downloaded AOMEI Partition Assistant. It shows as Disk 5 as 0.00KB, Basic MBR. I try to initialize it there, wipe the drive or delete the partitions to no avail. I keep getting error messages 6 or 45 which state "The partition table on the disk failed to update as other programs locked the partition table, please close other programs and retry."
This is not possible, since my other pc won't boot so I can wipe the disk clean or unlock the partition table.
How would I get into this drive.Screenshot 2026-03-24 100643.webp

“BitLocker isn’t the issue here — formatting would work fine if Windows could see the drive.
But because the SSD shows 0.00 KB, Unknown, and Not Initialized, and initialization is greyed out, Windows isn’t communicating with the drive at all.

This usually happens because the NVMe-to-USB enclosure can’t properly talk to that SSD model. Many NVMe drives cannot be initialized over USB.

The fix is to remove the SSD from the enclosure and plug it directly into a PC’s M.2 slot. If it shows up normally, you can wipe it with diskpart and then the enclosure will work.

If it still shows 0 KB internally, the SSD itself has failed — it’s not a BitLocker lockout.”

Welcome to Eleven Forum.

Run DISKPART. Use the command LIST DISK to identify the disk number of your external drive. Use SELECT DISK n substituting your disk number for 'n'. The command CLEAN will erase all partition information on the selected disk leaving the drive as 'uninitialised'. Then you should be able to use Disk Management to initialise the drive and create new partition(s).

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

Some enclosures will only work with USB3. Make sure the USB you are trying to use is a USB3.

I started by trying DISKPART. It shows all the disks on my pc, except Disk 5 which is the disk I'm trying to get to. Nothing was working.
Then I remembered, I have an open sided SSD to USB plug that I got to check out another drive. The drive was then recognized. That meant, it was the enclosure.
The drive has all the info from the old computer in it. I saved what I needed from it onto another drive, then wiped the drive. Initialized it, formatted it, named the drive, defragged it, etc. I will resize the partitions later.
I purchased another SSD to USB enclosure about a year ago that worked without a hitch. This time, I thought I could save some money with this one, since it was nearly half the price.
Goes to show - you get what you pay for. Now I have to return it!
Thanks for all your help. It helped lead me to the correct conclusion.
