how to uninstall Edge from the face of the Earth??

These are the folders I delete after running the command prompt

And it dosen't break windows, if anything with the next Cumulative Update it usually installs itself back so you have to do it all over again.
If you really want to get rid of edge completely. There is still much more to remove. :)
Below are some. In addition to that, of course, from the Windows registry..

C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions\EdgeUI.admx
C:\Windows\System32\EdgeResetPlugin.dll
C:\Windows\System32\EdgeManager.dll
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge.Stable_8wekyb3d8bbwe
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Microsoft.MicrosoftEdgeDevToolsClient_8wekyb3d8bbwe
C:\Windows\WinSxS\FileMaps\\ (Lot of edge related files)
C:\Windows\servicing\LCU\\ (Here too more to search) :)

If you want to remove everything manually, you should download Voidtools everything.

Because you remove Edge doesn't mean a search in the start menu will pull your preferred browser. I'm not certain what it would do. It could result in an error. If you delete it, use Revo Uninstaller Pro as @IanMosley indicated to do. I would not go hunting down folders and registry entries to delete. You never know what else those things might be connected to.

That's just my two cents.

Microsoft & Some Other people differ on that. If you say the next CU brings it back it is a waste of time to do it.

I have been using the Command Prompt Method in Windows 10 for ages and Now I use it on Windows 11 still works great.

Click on the Windows logo
Type ‘Command Prompt’ and you’ll see the app. Do a right-click on it and click on Run as Administrator
Copy and paste the following commands one after the other.
Replace xxx with the version of Microsoft Edge

cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\xxx\Installer
Enter
setup --uninstall --system-level --verbose-logging --force-uninstall
Enter

Reboot

Search for Edge in C Drive (make sure Edge is not running in the Task Manager) before deleting Folders
I followed some instructions to remove Edge awhile back (several months) and it was gone. Firefox took back over. However, when I tried to reinstall it, it wouldn't. Not that I cried about it . . .

Going forward, any app built with WebView 2 will be using Edge components under the hood, and this goes for a number of OS components. I don't see this as evil. Connected apps need webviews, and it makes perfect sense that, having chosen Chromium as the basis for its new OS browser, and having done a lot of work to customize it, Microsoft should integrate it into the OS, SDKs, programmatic controls, and into OS modules that need to display HTML. It's no different from Safari on iOS or Chrome on Android. You can't get rid of these completely and still expect OS components to be able to display information from the Web.

None of this stops anyone from browsing the Web in their favourite browser. And if you really don't like the Edge-based PDF reader, simply set the default for PDF files to open in a different PDF reader of your choice. Right-click any PDF file in Explorer, choose Properties, and under Opens With, where it says Edge, change it to your application of choice.

It's the curse of MS, you can't remove edge completely and hope that something else is not broken along with it in the process, so IMHO better to leave it as is

I think the suspicion here is a bit overdone. Why aren't people bashing "the curse of Google" because they insist on deeply embedded Google services as the foundation of almost every app in the Play Store, or "the curse of Apple" because they insist on Safari as the only browser engine on iOS? Yes, Edge is embedded into Windows 11, but Windows is a far more open system than Android (at least as locked down by Google via its stranglehold over the Play Store), iOS or MacOS. You can run Windows on virtually any hardware (it's ridiculously easy to circumvent the hardware checks and install Windows 11 even on very old PCs), and you can run virtually any software inside Windows. I wish you could say the same about MacOS.

Remember, folks, that the new Edge is built on open-source Chromium. It's not closed, proprietary software the way the old Edge Legacy was (though I think they did open source Trident at some point). In the end, Microsoft does let you use your browser of choice, and lets you run any browser engine. But in our highly connected and networked world, it does have to display Web data in many different parts of the OS, and so it's natural they should standardize on the technology they have chosen for this purpose across different OS components.

The curse is that even though the default browser is something else like chrome or FF but still search, etc.. opens in edge whereas these things don't happen in android, can't say about MacOS or apple

Just hide it --remove from taskbar, menu or whatever.

The problem with removing some of these things that are built in to the OS you could mess up other things. I just keep it "out of sight" apart from very seldom cases when something doesn't work on a website say in Firefox -- usually not because of problems with the browser per se but because the code on a web site hasn't been tested properly with different browsers.

The reason why IE also hasn't yet completely gone is that it shares code with File explorer (and the other way around) and Ms hasn't untangled the two yet. I suspect it would be easier to break "Quantum entanglement" than undo IE and FE but it must come soon enough.

Cheers

:geek: Has anyone figured out how to completely disable Edge from their computer?

I looked around Google, and the tutorials you have here but don't see a way. I saw what sounded good for Win 10 here, but don't know that it would work for 11?

I use Firefox, and have been using it since Netscape disappeared :(
You do know you do not actually have to use it?

I have lost count of people who deleted it, then ran into issues with their preferred browser not working, and were then unable to connect to internet. They then go through hoops and loops sorting out issue.

It makes FAR MORE sense to just leave Edge there as a backup in case main browser throws a wobbler. Of course, you could have another browser to act as a backup, but doing that to avoid having EDGE is seriously OCD territory.

In the end, you are more likely to break updates etc, removing EDGE and create more issues than simply ignoring it.

i think we are all in agreement that you if you don't want to use Edge, just ignore it and leave it be.

Those who continue to really want to delete Edge are doing so because occasionally from within the OS, they click on something that links to the Internet and they arrive at their destination on edge when they really don't want to be on Edge, but on their browser of choice. If they could 100% prevent this from happening, I'm sure they would be okay with leaving Edge alone. < I find this problem happens so infrequently that it really isn't a bother for me. And if it does link me to edge, I can use edge for 30 seconds while I am doing some task. If not, I just copy and paste the URL into my browser of choice. I find both options better than continuing to try to remove edge.

If people don't want to use edge then just change the default browser - that still works perfectly. What is a bit sneaky though is when you download the firefox installer if you use Edge to download it (not much choice after a new clean windows install as it's the only browser on the system) you get a message from Windows saying "Do you really want to do this" or similar.

If you just want to prevent it from running, you can block it. The updater service will keep it updated for Bill's sake.
Code:
reg add "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer" /v "DisallowRun" /t REG_DWORD /d "1" /f
reg add "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\DisallowRun" /v "1" /t REG_SZ /d "msedge.exe" /f

With the latest build 22000.795 and with edge v103 the Command Prompt doesn't seem to work anymore

cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\xxx\Installer
Enter
setup --uninstall --system-level --verbose-logging --force-uninstall
Enter
I tried this on win10 and win11, my version is 103.0.1264.77, cannot uninstall

this driving me nuts.

I also do not use MS Search , it is not on my taskbar.
I just found this today and did it. I like this idea because if the MS's search box isn't there, I'm not tempted to use it, and that's the most aggravating when I try to open anything (that's not on my PC already) in it's results, blam, there's Edge.

It's the curse of MS, you can't remove edge completely and hope that something else is not broken along with it in the process, so IMHO better to leave it as is
That exact thing happend to me.

I "force uninstalled" Edge and now I am stuck.

Apparently I had removed "edge webview" or whatever some auxiliary program is called, has been deleted. So I re-installed Edge browser... but guess what? I have no webview back. I went to their webpage (WebView2 - Microsoft Edge Developer) downloaded that but then when I try to install it the edge-view pop up tells me that I already have webview installed... except that's not true. No webview or webview2 program is visible in control pannel installed programs list. Now what?
