Are you running Windows 11 Home? I am running the Pro version and the app does not show on my system. It could be that this is the new Windows backup app that has just been released and could be one of the apps that are not uninstallable in the "lower" versions of Windows 11.

If this is the case then give it a few weeks and I'm sure that someone will find or develop a method to remove the app - as usually happens - In the interim I would just suggest you try to ignore the app, although I can fully understand how this can be frustrating

I have 'uninstall' available in my Dev build 23466.1001. You're right though, the uninstall does not complete.

Edit: Windows Back up is not a separate app, as such. Click its 'App settings' and you'll find that its part of the 'Windows Feature Experience Pack'.

The way I read it is it's MS version of Time Machine that Mac users have. From a user perspective, though I will never use it myself, I can see it's viability for users who have not developed their own backup solution. On one hand, any backup solution for system recovery is better than having none at all.
However, the catch 22 is it's also Microsoft's push for selling more cloud storage, as if their defaulting users files to Onedrive is not enough for the unsuspecting users who know no difference.

I'll probably get static for this comment, but....
"There is NO WAY, in this world or the next that I would ever trust MS to back up my PC." I just don't!
If MS Backup exists anywhere on my PC, it's on permanent 'Ignore'.

For as long as there have been Internet based forums, on personal computers, we've been talking about backing up our computers. I personally have recounted my own backup scheme more times than I can even remember.

Backing up an entire HD or C: partition is fairly simple, with FREE software that's readily available, and doing a quick data backup is even easier, with things already available within Windows, like XCOPY. (which I use, in a batch file, several times a week to back up all my data files to external media)

A famous man once said, "I get no respect!" And I feel like that every time I talk about doing backups.

But in my own defense, I've gone 40 years now without ever loosing my data files, all due to having good backups.

same. MS is the reason I lost all my documents with their bugged update in 2018 winter or something, I don't remember.

I don't trust them to counting 1 2 3 since then.

Has anyone figured out how to remove the 'Windows Backup' entry from the start menu with this new update?
Can't find any entry in 'Get-AppxPackage' in PowerShell, nor any related shortcuts I see in the different start menu folder locations.

Any ideas?

I saw it somewhere today... maybe it was on Win 10 Home 19045.3393?
I know I saw it somewhere... cause I tried to right click/uninstall.
That option wasn't there so I checked REVO and Programs & Features.

It's part of the Experience Package thingy..., whatever the hell that is!!!

I've recently discovered that removing some Universal Windows Platform (UWP) apps from the Windows 10 and 11 Start Menu is not always as simple as with older Windows operating systems when you could simply delete the shortcuts from known Start Menu locations.

It should be under %ProgramData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu.

It appears 'Windows Backup' is part of the Windows Client CBS. Found several entries of it using RedEdit, but unsure if that would remove the shortcut from the Start Menu. Someone has to have a fix! :)

Not necessarily, yet. And until they do, you’d mess with the registry and files just to have it removed from the start menu? Let us know how you venture.

Touch MicrosoftWindows.Client.CBS_cw5n1h2txyewy at your peril. It does so much more than just Windows Backup. Without it you'd break Desktop Spotlight, and probably many other things.
