HTTrack is a free software (GNU GPL) offline browser: it copies websites to your computer, so you can browse them offline, mirror them, or archive them.

HTTrack Website Copier is a free, open-source offline browser utility that allows you to download an entire website from the Internet to a local directory.

Key Functions
  • Local Mirroring: It builds all directories recursively, copying HTML, images, and other files from the server to your computer.
  • Link Reconstruction: It automatically arranges the original site's relative link-structure so you can browse the website offline exactly as if you were online.
  • Update Capability: It can update an existing mirrored site and resume interrupted downloads.

Version 3.50-2 (09/11/2026)​

HTTrack 3.50 is out, nine years after the last packaged release: HTTPS, files past 2 GB, Windows paths past 260 characters, and WARC output.

Notably, after a 9-year hiatus without a packaged release, the software received a major update (Version 3.50) in September 2026. This critical update modernizes the tool by restoring HTTPS support (fixing outdated TLS issues), supporting files larger than 2 GB, expanding Windows path limits past 260 characters, and providing updated support for Android and responsive web structures like lazy-loaded images.

I remember a billion years ago when we were all dialing into message boards with our Hayes modems, PC Magazine posted their utilities for download and one of them was "Site Snagger" that did essentially the same thing as HTTrack though most likely not as well. It's still available here:


Who knows if it would even work today.

Wow, I've used this to capture a few websites that were going away soon, and it's been very useful! I'm happy to see a new version, this one is a keeper!

If I explain this in full detail, the administrators of the websites whose vulnerabilities I exploit might take countermeasures. :p

In short, there is a website from which I want to retrieve all the game assets, and thanks to that tool, I can easily obtain them all. (more than 60000 files)

(1) To save websites locally to your hard drive (or USB stick) for offline viewing.
(2) In case the original sites close down and Archive.org hasn't preserved them.

I do wonder, though, how well it works with modern website technologies.
