HTTrack Website Copier is a free, open-source offline browser utility that allows you to download an entire website from the Internet to a local directory.

Key Functions
  • Local Mirroring: It builds all directories recursively, copying HTML, images, and other files from the server to your computer.
  • Link Reconstruction: It automatically arranges the original site's relative link-structure so you can browse the website offline exactly as if you were online.
  • Update Capability: It can update an existing mirrored site and resume interrupted downloads.

Version 3.50-2 (09/11/2026)

HTTrack 3.50 is out, nine years after the last packaged release: HTTPS, files past 2 GB, Windows paths past 260 characters, and WARC output.

Notably, after a 9-year hiatus without a packaged release, the software received a major update (Version 3.50) in September 2026. This critical update modernizes the tool by restoring HTTPS support (fixing outdated TLS issues), supporting files larger than 2 GB, expanding Windows path limits past 260 characters, and providing updated support for Android and responsive web structures like lazy-loaded images.

I remember a billion years ago when we were all dialing into message boards with our Hayes modems, PC Magazine posted their utilities for download and one of them was "Site Snagger" that did essentially the same thing as HTTrack though most likely not as well. It's still available here:

Who knows if it would even work today.

Wow, I've used this to capture a few websites that were going away soon, and it's been very useful! I'm happy to see a new version, this one is a keeper!

If I explain this in full detail, the administrators of the websites whose vulnerabilities I exploit might take countermeasures. :p

In short, there is a website from which I want to retrieve all the game assets, and thanks to that tool, I can easily obtain them all. (more than 60000 files)

An example of a site I haven't exploited but you can do with that tool:

(1) To save websites locally to your hard drive (or USB stick) for offline viewing.
(2) In case the original sites close down and Archive.org hasn't preserved them.

I do wonder, though, how well it works with modern website technologies.

[Edit] It works well with these forums. :) Here's an offline version I made of this topic: Gofile — Cloud Storage Made Simple

Real simple. I have reference sites that I've used for years that were suddenly going off-line due to the maintainer passing away or moving on to other pursuits. I use it to capture an off-line copy of the entire site so the reference material is available after the site is gone.

Truthfully, I thought this was pretty obvious.

Well, I'm just a simple old woman so sometimes things have to be explained to me...in small words.

To each his own. We all do stuff differently. Windows changes so rapidly, the way of doing things also changes so old stuff is not always applicable anymore. Keeping sites offline uses too much disk space too, which is at a premium these days. Stuff I might want to come back to for reference I occassionally condense into word document or notepad notes, but usually as bookmarks. If a site is defunct or very outdated, I move on.

You're thinking in too narrow a band. Websites exist for all sorts of things besides Windows, and some of the information contained is good for decades. It's not always true the same information, or as complete a description, is available in other places.

Case in point is I'm involved in model trains, much of the information on 20, 30, or even older products have long been purged from manufacturer's websites, but is still available in other venues. Brand specific information may only be readily available on a couple of sites, losing one of those is a bigger deal than for information that is widely published. Ditto for the antique pistols I collect, a one hundred year old pistol hasn't changed since it was manufactured, information published back then is still good now. 🤣

HTTrack 3.50 is out, nine years after the last packaged release
...and the last time I used would be about 9 years ago too.
Never really liked it, but it did work well.
These days I rip to PDF instead by different methods.

OK, enlighten me. How in the world would you rip an entire website to PDF. Also, how would you ever find anything in that PDF file for larger websites?
