Hundreds of "xml_file (2).xml" empty files being created every day

Just noticed this recently in the Users/Owner/AppData/Local/Temp folder where I found several thousand files named "xml_file (sequential numbers).xml files. It is creating one at least every 2 or 3 minutes. They are all empty. I deleted them and within 10 minutes I had 5 new ones. I completed a cleanmgr.exe and cleaned everything, then restarted and they keep coming back. I hadn't noticed this before. The only thing I can think of is that I installed the 2nd Tuesday Windows Update 2 days ago. Here is a screenshot. I did see another similar post, but it didn't address this kind of xml file being created. Any ideas?

I’ve read this happens or can be related to Widgets. Do you have Widgets running?

Yes, I do have Widgets enabled. I just disabled them from the Taskbar settings and it appears they have stopped. Need to give it some time to be sure, but what the hell??? Who writes a program to make a Temp file that stays forever every 2 or 3 minutes from a widget? I see there are other issues with the March Windows Update, so this might be one of them. I already had a BSOD today, which I haven't had in years, and supposedly many are having this since the update this week.

I believe this has been an issue for a while. There is a Report Hub submission somewhere, I don’t have a link.

If disabling widgets doesn''t stop the files being generated,since the files are being created by Edge, try to open one. What's in it? The contents might give you a clue what's causing Edge to create them. If it won't open, right click on it and select open with, then select Edge.

Disabling widgets stopped it. Opening the files didn't show anything as they are zero KB and blank.

So, as mentioned, the empty xml files stopped, but now I'm getting these "edge_BITS_xxxx_xxxxxxxxx" folders being created. They are just empty folders. This is also something new that just started after the monthly update I installed Wednesday. Not sure why they want to create these folders that never get deleted when you are done with the program or shut down. I'm guessing they come from the Edge browser? I did search and saw that this has been an on and off issue for at least a couple of years, with various solutions, but I didn't see a real fix anywhere.

The .XML files were all empty. I deleted them all.
