I don't understand my office programs listed under applications.

I have a relatively new Lenovo laptop (less than a year old). I did not have any office programs installed on it when I ordred/configured it to buy.

I recently installed MS Office 2021 Professional Plus .

In my apps listings I now have:

1730667751783.png

1730667696848.png
1730667813844.png

Is Mail and Calendar a separate app from the one in Outlook within Office? Can I uninstall it without it affecting anything in Office Professional Plus?
Why do I have two Microsoft 365 listed? One seems to be a placeholder ad. Are there any associated files with Professional Plus?

I also have 'New Outlook'. Is this separate from the Outlook in Professional Plus, as well as the Outlook online account? This is confusing.

For any Microsoft apps, paid version always much better than free versions.

So
Yes,
You can remove those free versions as you please. No hurts. (i.e. free Office365, free Outlook , , ,)
Only keep and run your paid version (here is Office 2021 Pro and its Outlook)

Microsoft 365, at least on my newest Notebook, is more an online or SaaS/Software as a Service program that comes with new computers [my last 2 Notebooks]. Mail is becoming Outlook as is Windows Live, Outlook.com and Hotmail.

I've been getting away from Microsoft Office lately. I originally started with WordPerfect for Windows 5.1 back in '92 {still keep a version on computers] then had to start learning Microsoft Office in the late '90s. The one thing Microsoft seems to have discontinued is Publisher but I got acquainted with Serif PagePlus which now is Affinity and also use Arts & Letters Graphics Editor from a few years ago.

"Mail and Calendar" is morphing in to "New Outlook" late 2024, these are Mail client apps part of Windows 11, not part of MS Office as such.

The other 3 would be components of MS Office 2021 Professional Plus.

You can also access each separate Email account with your Web Browser that includes Outlook Email.

Microsofts confusing naming is par for the course, unfortunately.

Starting this year Microsoft confused things by stating that the Microsoft 365 family includes Microsoft 365 (subscription), Microsoft Office 2021 (perpetual) and Microsoft Office 2024 (perpetual).

In Installed apps
  • Mail and Calendar
In Start menu
  • Mail (aka new Outlook)
Note while running the new Outlook you can launch the free online in browser versions of Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint, or Word.

In Installed apps
  • Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2021 - en-us
In Start menu
  • Access 2021
  • Excel 2021
  • OneNote 2021
  • Outlook 2021 (aka classic Outlook)
  • PowerPoint 2021
  • Publisher 2021
  • Word 2021

Ok, I think I understand.

So Mail and Calendar are merging into New Outlook, which will be a separate native desktop Windows app apart from any Office program. The New Outlook will connect to the existing online web based Outlook.com? (at least it did when I opened it)

I had the "New Outlook" app for about 10 mins on my PC... /started getting targeted Adverts displayed alongside my mail. Was only using to view Gmail.
So out it went!! I Just use Office 2019 Outlook for my domain email and use Google chrome for my Gmail's. No more adverts!.

Where were you seeing the adverts? I don't see any.

BTW, I only use Outlook to view my two Outlook.com email accounts. I use Chrome to view my two Gmail accounts.

Haven't decided yet. I clicked on the New Outlook and it synced to my Outlook.com account. I agreed, and so we'll se what it's like. I can always delete it.

All this Microsoft duplication and confusion nonsense makes me want to go to Mac, but I can't afford to.

I'm getting ads too in the New Outlook. When you click on them looking for somewhere to unsubscribe, it takes you directly to their website and I can't find anywhere to unsubscribe.

e.g. Capital One credit cards.

So I've been just deleting them as they come into my inbox.

If you’re paying for Microsoft 365, use Outlook Classic in that. You shouldn’t get those ads.

Thanks. yeah, I noticed there are lots of complaints about it: Redirecting

I will probably go back to the original Outlook.com

Outlook classic is the desktop client.

Cant unsubscribe, it’s the price of using the Outlook (New) app with an Outlook account.
If you’re paying for Microsoft 365, use Outlook Classic in that. You shouldn’t get those ads.
You don't get ads in New Outlook either, from an Outlook.com account, if you're paying for Microsoft 365:

  • Will the new Outlook for Windows have ads?

As is the case for all Outlook experiences today, paid customers won’t receive ads when signed into Outlook. These include customers using Outlook with a Microsoft 365 account provided by their company, school, or organization, or those who have a Microsoft 365 Basic, Personal, or Family subscription.

The new Outlook for Windows also provides a free, ad-supported version for customers who don’t have a paid subscription. If you use a free email service such as Outlook.com, Hotmail, or Gmail without a Microsoft 365 subscription, you’ll see ads in the new Outlook for Windows.

If you prefer not to see ads, you may purchase a Microsoft 365 subscription to remove any advertising served by Microsoft.
