I hate outlook.com view, prefer the old one from perhaps couple yrs ago

I have 4 large panes spashed across the screen and a small one on the left, ads on the far right, taking up lots of space, which leaves a small narrow pane for the actual email.
I have put up with it a long time. I find I prefer the gmail look.

They changed it a long time ago. So today am asking is there anything can be done?

The result is I hardly ever want to go to outlook.com
And emails will pile up there forever in the 10's of thousands.

I also find it very tedious to delete them as you can not do thousands at a time, just like a page at a time.

So the emails pile up. Be a full time job to even try and clean this up.

I just looked at the 'new' Outlook Mail app and inadvertantly click an Off button in the upper right corner, was set back to the previous version. BUT, there was a note that it would automatically be set back to the 'new' version in the near future.

I'd be looking at the SeaMonkey browser because it includes an E-Mail app [that installs on the computer], OE Classic, eM Client, etc.

I don't get a lot of E-Mail but my does and my ISP complains when she has more than 3000 still stored on their Webmail server so cleanup becomes essential.

It's the replacement for Mail that comes with Windows. Clicking Mail in the M section of the All apps list merely opens the new Outlook in the O section. There's a new icon also.

My Hotmail and Outlook.com accounts have merged into https://outlook.live.com/.

If you are talking about outlook.com online, there's nothing you can do. It's a website so we take what it gives us. I suggest you start using an email app to handle your email such as MS Office Outlook (paid) or Thunderbird (free) or emClient (free or paid available) or use the new Outlook app that replaced Windows Mail.

Note: As of Sept 16, 2024 All Outlook email accounts will stop working through any 3rd party email application that does not support modern authentication methods (ie email apps that use only a password)

Yeah I know what the new Outlook is.
But this guys screenshots shows an ads pane on the right. Thats online, not a client side app.

Outlook.com (old Hotmail) was migrated to Outlook (Hosted Exchange Server). You're getting a dumbed down version of OWA (Outlook Web Access).

There is no going back. As many have noted, you can pick a different Mail sync app and ignore the web UI.

No.. app passwords can bypass that. Go test it. Yahoo or gmail or whatever on a email program that only uses username and password. But instead of your email password, put the password you generate via the web-login from your email host for app-specific. It then won’t prompt for mfa/2fa
