I need a simple tutorial on Facebook

Never teach your wife to drive. Even worse, never try to teach your wife how to use Facebook.
Personally I hate Facebook but have to use it to some extent. My wife does use it purely to keep abreast of what is happening in the village, but Facebook seems to come up with new ways of finding or reaching things, she gets lost, asks me for help, and the trouble starts!!! :eyeroll:

Can anyone recommend an easy and basic "How to use Facebook" When it comes to teaching we are incompatible - she is a teacher - she talks, I am doctor - I listen.

I wish it was that easy.
Unfortunately you're Facebook feed is controlled by Facebook, so you'll have to put up with advertising, people you may know, and God knows what. I try to stay off it as much as possible, but unfortunately it's still a good way to keep in touch with family and friends. You basically learn to live with it.... Lol...

FB is as simple as scrolling down, posts will pop up. If you want to like or comment, you click on the post.
Groups can be a little complicated though, but definitely install Messenger separately, just for chatting.

I tried to teach my wife how to drive stick when we first were married. It was a disaster...the lessons, not the marriage. That was 55-years ago.

The first question you need to ask yourself is; do I/we need to use Facebook?
You said to keep abreast of what is happening in the village. But can you get by just using Facebook Messenger?

I personally HATE Facebook, but I use Facebook Messenger just to keep in touch with a few people around the world.

I've no problem with a computer app to communicate, it's just Facebook I don't like. My family use WhatsApp daily to stay in touch in groups of different size, everyone, girls only, a mix or men discussing tech. A great way stay in in touch privately using text, graphics and video, and occasionally sound.

Just make sure the wifee knows not to click on ANY of the FB ads. FB does not filter them since they make money off them. Many are full of adware and malware.
I'm probably the only old woman on the planet who uses a computer and doesn't do FB or any social media. I absolutely hate it. Guess that makes me
ANTI-SOCIAL.

IMO, Facebook is specifically designed for one purpose. Keep the sucker online as long as possible to expose them to a maximum amount of advertising and extract as much personal information as possible from the sucker.

I only keep the Facebook account for the occasional link to something there that someone wants me to see, I have no interest in going there myself! I can waste all the extra time I have in on-line forums.

Our first phone (circa 1950) was similar but only had numbers on the dial. Our number was 632. Making a call from a telephone box cost 2p - manually connected "Press button A caller" or button B if it didn't connect and you wanted your money back. I knew one of the telephonists well and if i had to use a call box she usually recognised my voice and said Press button B and connected me!
Later, 1960s, I used to phone my then girlfriend, now wife from the university Union call box. She worked in a town 40 miles away so it was a long distance call - 3 minutes for whatever it cost at the time. Again manually connected . The telephonists obviously took pity on us impoverished students or they had very slow running timers. The longest 3 minutes I recall was about 30 minutes! And before anyone says it, our chats were not that interesting!

My daughter who lives near Boston has a good friend that has a little telephone museum that has a working telephone exchange. Once in a while they have "operating sessions" where they have operators in three "cities" and a long distance operator. "Customer" participants can call and be connected by the operators and for long distance they'd go through the long distance switchboard. He even had the official timing slips for the long distance calls that were used back in the day.

He also has a working crossbar switching rack with a handful of dial-up phones.

FWIW, when I lived in upstate NY in the 1950's, we had a party line. Us kids thought it was really fun to check out what the neighbors were talking about.

Makes you think how far we've come in a pretty short time!
