sound is only showing S/PDIF
I have a realtek chip on this MB, which windows doe not detect. When I install the driver from taiwan, the S/PDIF showing here goes away.
I did uninstal that realtek driver before finding out there is no sound outside of using a web browser. My sound is coming thru the HDMI cable to the HDTV I use as a monitor
I have no external speakers.

just tested Microsoft Treasure Hunt, and it plays all the sounds fine
Is there some setting to allow programs to play sound or not?
Do I have to reinstall realtek and plug in speakers to the sound ports on the MB?

here is a sound output page, shows no speakers plugged in.
Why should I need speakers if HDMI works for sound?

The programs that have no sound playback are WMC and SichboPVR
I downloaded an MP3 file and it has sound in the default windows player
I use WMC 11 on a similar PC and another one using an HDMI cable only and it has never been a problem plays the sound on a Westinghouse HDTV and a new Vizio TV. Could it be the Sharp HDTV?
Discussion of getting WMC to work on Windows 11 (unsupported)

I tend to think no as the Sharp TV plays sound thru HDMI on other programs. Something odd going on.

starting to think it is an audio codec pack issue for live TV. I found out WMC on this PC can play videos off the harddrive with sound

Open the programs you dont have sound in.
Go to volume icon > right click and choose volume mixer. Are programs muted in there?
Unmute them if so.
If all else fails, uninstall the sound devices under device manager and restart your machine. Windows should then find your sound driver and reinstall it.

I solved it. It was the old GTX260 nvidia card.
I put in a GT730 nvidia card and it plays sound in WMC
The GTX260 just passes spdif sound from the motherboard spdif port if you connect the patch cable to it, which I had on there
