I've had so much trouble over the last 3 years and 4 months since buying the i9 from gw computers crashing, pages crashing updated not working went through about 20hdd's 2mb's and finally discovered it was the $1000.00 i9 cpu intel that would fail 24/7 I only discovered this when I replaced it with an i5 13 gen as I didn't want to risk an i7 as they also have heat issues and now my machine is running like a dream. My next computer will be an AMD not going down the microsoft hole of lost dollars again. Every other computer I built in the last 26 years has been amd, So if you have an i7 or i9 and experiencing weird stuffget rid of the cpu with the faulty silicon with the thermal problem.

Well Intel did have degradation issues with 13th and 14th gen processors. Sounds like yours was part of that group.

Sure was a tech guy offered to purchase it from me but I couldn't sell it to him as it's against my principles to sell dodgy stuff wish microsoft and GW computers had Principles. It wasn't until microsoft bought out a patch for the faults that I first cottoned on to the possible problem can't believe they waited over 3 years for a patch but it never fixed mine.

If you have a Retail Box I9 cpu it has a 5 yr warranty and Intel will replace it.
With the latest bios updates on your board it should be safe to run the new I9.
Otherwise you could just sell the replacement and recover some of your money.

peace

I sure wouldn't just cut my losses without filing a claim through Intel. Possibly they will replace it which you could then sell it as new in box. If they don't, if someone wants to buy it and that someone is a technical person, get what you can from it and explain it's issues with the buyer. I'll bet he already knows about the Intel problems anyway. Don't just give in without a fight.

I don't think I will ever buy AMD again. Lots of marketing trickery and basically, Intel eats their lunch anyway.

It really depends on the platform. Admittedly, I'm not crazy about AMD either, but Intel really did drop the ball on their 13th. and 14th. gen processors. I'm much more acquainted with Intel's older platforms and only once have I ever had to make a claim on an Intel warranty. They were very forthright and they even let me select a replacement CPU worth over $1K more than the one I was returning because the replacement was already discontinued. I got it brand spankin' new, directly from Intel, at no extra cost.

I recently inherited an AMD platform using a Ryzen 7 7800X3D processor and it behooves me to say that the system runs like greased lightning. I'm pretty sure I could clock this thing to 5 GHz easily but since I don't do liquid cooling watching it peak @ 4.7 is more than enough for this old man. Remember the song lyrics, "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss"?? Yeah, that's AMD for you. They're playing the same game Intel played with their pricing and advertising hype. TBH if I could I would swap this platform in a heartbeat for an Intel CPU and main board in the same tier simply because Intel suits my needs better than AMD but it is only right to give credit where credit is due. AMD has certainly come a long way.

Gave Dell touch screen with Windows 11 to daughter and got me an OTVOC. Being a PC builder I own many desktop PCs as well. I am a father of five providing PCs, laptops, and tablets for all my family, most of which I have modified, rebuilt, or simply built from scratch. I do not own a cell phone, never have, never will.
I run firefox which is harder on cpu's than chrome and edge as they barely ever crashed but with firefox it crashed more frequently until i changed cpu and after 3 years and 4 months of crashing to the point that I would stop using this pc for 6 months at a time and would fall back on the ryzen 7 notebooks I had to buy to pay wages to support workers who help me look after my wife AMD never failed me once however one did need repairing the software at one stage so I had to buy another notebook to get me through. The ryzen seven is faster than this i5. and i have 64gb ram. I am however using sata drives as the solid state drives I have tried are crap they were supplied by a computer technitian and he wouldn't warrant them so give me 6 months running this and we will see how I feel then as I've only had this computer running without crashing for one month now out of just over 3 years. I did learn a lot about local technicians that avoid honest repairing. if you pay some one to work for you you pay for honesty so you should get it. Last tech guy knew nothing about why my puter was acting up but when I finally diagnosed the problem it was clear to me that he knew exactly what was wrong all along as he started telling me all about overheating 13 gen cpu's but before this he acted ignorant. Funny thing is that I like the guy.

Funny thing is that I like the guy.
It could be that he didn't find out about Intel's gen 13 issue until after the fact. Sometimes it's hard to stay on top of everything and often many of these sorts of hardware failures are limited to specific platforms, models, and combinations thereof. Anything used that I give to a client is never charged for. I only charge for brand new (warrantied) parts and if they want me to add something used that's at their own risk.

When it comes to crashing there are multiple factors that need looking at before the CPU can be blamed. I had considerably more blue screens with my AMD Ryzen 7 3800X than I did with my i7 6900K but I'm pretty sure it was the ASUS ROG CROSSHAIR VIII HERO system board that was the source of those errors. A BIOS update eventually took care of that problem but it didn't come out for some time.

AMD/INTEL - Both have their duds. Both have their winners. My finding has been that it's really a matter of user preference and familiarity for the most part. I am grateful to have escaped the Gen 13/14 fiasco and I'm happy to stay with the older DDR4 platforms. But that is me and that is my personal preference.

Other Info
Gave Dell touch screen with Windows 11 to daughter and got me an OTVOC. Being a PC builder I own many desktop PCs as well. I am a father of five providing PCs, laptops, and tablets for all my family, most of which I have modified, rebuilt, or simply built from scratch. I do not own a cell phone, never have, never will.
Personally I thought it was the new bios with the licence change in boards with the gpu etc I didn't think the manufacturers were up to speed with the changes because I had so many different items failing I went through about 20hdds 5 solid state drives I replaced the MB so the original was a good board now lost to me and to find it was a rottem $1000.00 cpu that was no good from day one. It is rewarding to have fixed it with an i5 being on my own I used ai to help me select the replacement cpu. Now JW Computers have told me they won't warrant the cpu. so if you live in oz be aware JW Computers sold me a faulty cpu a model known to have faults from manufacture and WON'T help me with a replacement. The most interesting thing is my computer never overheated only the cpu was faulty.
