After 20 years of literally ground shaking performance, the control pod for my Z-5500 sound system died 
It's sad because the 10 sub and 6 ch amp are all in great condition and I recently replaced all the satillites with polk audio. I searched for a used control pod but all I can find are 2nd and 3rd gen models that aren't compatible with my first gen model. There is an aftermarket replacement but it's 4.1 not 5.1. No center channel support for some reason.
Luckily, one can still find a new Z-906 on Newegg and we were able to order one.
