Incoming being sent to deleted folder

Hello I have just recently found that I was getting no mail in my inbox although it was showing that there were forty odd mails there. I tested the Outlook by sending myself a message but nothing.
To cut a long frustrating story short and after my system restore did not even work either though I know I have set restore points I scanned for malware ran DISM and SFC -with no results.
I then by sheer accident looked in the deleted folder and there was my message to myself so I opened the deleted folder and found loads of mails in that folder and I can restore back to the inbox using that option. Now while this is a fix of a sort want mail to go into the inbox as I rely on emails for a lot of things (am not a phone person) and running that fix is costing me a lot of time and is as one might imagine very frustrating.
Any ideas on what my problem might be would be really appreciated.

Do you have a mail rule configured that's responsible for that?

What Dalchina said. Also what outlook are you using? Outlook as part of Microsoft 365, Outlook as part of or Office 2019, 2021, 2024) OR are you using the Windows 11 Outlook app that came with Windows? There are numerous Outlook applications.

Plain and simple ... o/Outlook!! Forums like this would all but cease to exist if were not for o/Outlook (and/or OneDrive)

But, back to your problem ...
- as stated above - rulez. Even if you haven't created any, still check what rules o/Outlook has invoked. Disable ALL rules and test.
- spam settings. o/Outlook (Microsoft) has its own peculiar definitions of what should be classed as spam/junk email. Turn off ALL junk/spam mail filtering/settings and see if that makes any difference

Test your email service with another email client - Thunderbird and/or eMClient. Is the same happening?

Hello and thanks for the quick replies. Now I think am using the Outlook which is with the office 365 as I cannot see any version mentioned in the File tab and it just has the other apps like Word Excel etc listed below in the drop down box. Now I have quite a few rules set because of the huge number of mails that came in as Junk which was also mixed in with mails from sat eBay and my brother for example. I suppose I could try stopping all of the rules and see what happens.

Stop all the rules. Then re-activate them one by one, testing each time. It's gonna take time, but it's obvious that one (or maybe even more) have been set wrong.

You could also try clicking on the "This is not Junk" option but a reset on the rules might be a better approach.

Ok will try resting the rules although this reply came through after I have deleted a few which I am thinking maybe I set a rule that caused this issue. Anyway thanks to you all for your advice.

Ok thanks for everyone's help as I have known fromthe past this forum is just the best. Problem was me making a rule - don't know which one out of just over a hundred and twenty but obviously one I have made very recently

120 rules?? Must take ages for the program to filter all your emails. Might it be easier to use Unsubscribe from the spam, where it is available

But if it's that bad, maybe a progressive change of email i.e. create a new email, run old and new in parallel whilst progressively notifying those you want to know what your new email will become. Use if as the default Reply to for your desired email correspondents. After a couple of months, kill the old email (or just ignore it)

I'm curious how you got to a stage of needing so many filters?

Yes mate it got to the point where the constant requests for me to pay up for ridiculous stuff I had no need for but the idiots who were sending this stuff just simply changed something in the title address or text that let it keep slipping through hence so many rules but I ahve learnt my lesson and will do something like you suggest.

Trying to stop this sort of spam is fruitless (as an Australian, you'd understand the analogy of it being like trying to "push Ess-Aitch-One-Tee uphill with a pointed stick")

There is also the prospect that your email address ()not necessarily the account itself) has been compromised as a result of distribution through spam mailing lists. Even more reason to consider a change, this time ebing more circumspect to whom the address is given

As a suggestion, I have an email address solely for use online (register forums usage, purchases, etc) . And only for that use, no emails. Consequently if the address is onsold in the spamming world, the email just builds up. I never check it.

Ok might try that and pushing that Ess Aitch One Tee with a burning end of a stick is even more "uncomfortable" LOL!!
