Apps Install or Uninstall TPM Diagnostics Tool in Windows 11

This tutorial will show you how to install or uninstall the TPM Diagnostics tool in Windows 11.

Trusted Platform Module (TPM) technology is designed to provide hardware-based, security-related functions. A TPM chip is a secure crypto-processor that is designed to carry out cryptographic operations. The chip includes multiple physical security mechanisms to make it tamper resistant, and malicious software is unable to tamper with the security functions of the TPM.

Windows 11 requires a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0.

See also: Windows 11 enables security by design from the chip to the cloud | Microsoft Security Blog

The TPM Diagnostics tool is an optional feature in Windows 11 that allows you to retrieve diagnostic information about the Trusted Platform Module (TPM).

You must be signed in as an administrator to install or uninstall the TPM Diagnostics tool.

Hi there

Note - If using a VM you can still install this even if you don't have a TPM -- ensure the "Emulated" TPM is available in your VM config. On a Linux HOST you need to install swtpm which is the TPM emulator provided by IBM. run the ./config script to set it up once. After that when running a WINDOWS VM on this host the TPM will be started automatically. If you don't install the emulator you won't be able to add the TPM to your Windows VM.

I think on a Windows HOST on HYPER-V VM's it can be added to the Virtual hardware even if you don't have the hardware and hen install the software as per the tutorial. On Windows the TPM emulator is provided by Ms.

I think though to get full use of the TPM (whether real or emulated) you need to generate a key -- maybe suggestions here for another tutorial someone) ?

Cheers
jimbo

Question if firmware TPM is disabled in the BIOS (usually is by default) will this app still work - would it let you know you have TPM?

Thanks.

Hello, :-)

The command will still work, but will either not find anything to report or show as disabled if TPM is disabled in UEFI/BIOS.

Hello, :alien:

If you mean for uninstalling the TPM Diagnostics tool, then there's no consequences since it's not installed by default. It's only a tool that can be used to diagnose and get information about your TPM security chip.
