windows 11 23h
Hello everyone
i have a really odd issue, i wanted to try the new update of windows 11 24h2,
i donwload the iso from UUP DUMP i got the version 26100.1591 download the tool and make an iso out of it, now i try just to upgrade it directly and all was fine but since i always prefere a clean installation i make a bootable usb with rufus.
now the real issue, when i procede to make a fresh installation i usually use the tool from my MB msi secure erase to clean my nvme to get ready for the new installation, done that i procede to boot the usb, all works i see the installation process i select the version i wanna and on the moment the installation scan my drives its give me this error: An unexpected error occurred while installing Windows. Error code 0x8004244 - 0x4002f
and if i use another usb with the iso of windows 23h2 all works normally.
anyone can enlight me this is driving me crazy

Windows. Error code 0x8004244 - 0x4002f

Hi, welcome to the forum 🙏

I believe the error code might arise if you do not have enough space on your disk or in the System Reserved Partition. I think I got it trying to update my sons PC if I recall correctly?

“If” I am correct and If at all possible, increase your system reserve partition and try again? But you diskparted the drive first so i’m not sure where to go or how to increase it pre install.

You do realise that it could be within the month or not much longer that 24H2 will be for public release.
There seems to be an urgency to cheat the scheduled release of Sept/Oct that I don’t quite understand.

Try creating the install with RUFUS but not as MBR. The 24H2 bootloader is UEFI only.

That’s all I have. Someone who has done this will most likely comment.

@RandomGuyinIT,

First, welcome to ElevenForum!

If you don't mind trying this, I would appreciate it. This would answer some questions for me as well.

Go to the link below to access the Windows Insider builds. The latest preview release of Windows available there is 26100.1150. Grab that image and make your installation media with it. Try installing that build. After installation is done, either allow Windows update to install the latest updates which will bring you to the most recent build, or, if you prefer, you can download that update manually and install it.

I suspect that this will work. I will explain why once you report back with your results.

NOTE: You do not need to be enrolled in the insider program to use this.

I'm well aware the rtm is around the corner but as I said I was really curious to try the new hdr feature and the new boost in performance for the amd processor . That been said
I already make a bootable usb not in mrb since my bios is uefi and again same settings works with no issues with the iso of windows 11 23h

There seems to be an urgency to cheat the scheduled release of Sept/Oct that I don’t quite understand.

Was planned for an earlier release - but they had all kinds of issues with the implementation of latest Windows Spyware (so called Recall Feature). For one thing - was included among the available Windows Features - which made it easier to Disable it, and... Microsoft REALLY DIDN'T LIKE THAT, so - was deemed as an unintentional "bug" - something they'll "fix" in upcoming builds:

“We are aware of an issue where Recall is incorrectly listed as an option under the ‘Turn Windows features on or off’ dialog in Control Panel; this will be fixed in an upcoming update,” said Windows senior product manager Brandon LeBlanc in a statement to The Verge."

Unless one is already running an insider build, I can't for the life of me undertand why anyone would join insider just to get 24h2 at this late stage of the game. (that is unless you plan to stay on insider going forward)We'll all get 24h2 in release within a month and a nice new clean release iso will be issued for anyone who wants to clean install or do a manual in-place upgrade..

I have downloaded and installed the .1591 version without any issues. Using Rufus to create the bootable USB installer drive. It appears you were able to actually perform an Upgrade install to that version successfully? But the failure was doing a clean install using a USB drive created using Rufus? Also not sure why you needed to use Secure Erase on the drive as it's not necessary. The installer allows you to delete all the partitions that exist and recreate them as part of the installation process. I suspect something odd with creating the USB installer using Rufus?

What motherboard are you using?

I'm a computer enthusiast so have quite a few systems that I run. More like an advanced hobby.
24H2 Setup is a bit wonky compared to its predecessors.
Since you used a secure wipe feature to erase the drive, it's either lacking a recognized disk layout (as written by a Windows host) or randomized junk is sitting inside of the reserved partitions. Try these steps:

1. Boot 24H2 from USB, and stop at the first screen.
2. Open a CMD window with Shift-F10.
3. Run diskpart.
Code:
list disks
(carefully check which disk is the NVME)

select disk [n]
clean
convert gpt
exit

exit
4. Continue with the normal Windows Setup.

Hi,
yes i can perform an upgrade directly from windows 23h2 with no issue at all, the moment i try to do a clean installation i have this issue,
becouse that's what i was raccomanded to do plus i never had any issue with that, about rufus i did what usually set up with nothing changed
as for the mb im currently using an MSI B450 Tomahowk II update with the last bios

So, base requirements for 24H2:

Supported CPU (can be bypassed using Rufus, but SSE4.2 and POPCNT hard requirement)
TPM enabled in BIOS (can be bypassed using Rufus)
UEFI mode in BIOS/Secure Boot
GPT partition type for Windows drive

I usually just delete the 4 Disk 0 partitions during clean install and just let the installer do the rest..

Did I miss anything?
