My dad was trying to install and buy Minecraft again, as he could not remember his login details (he's 81). In the end we had to make a new microsoft account for him, so that he could buy minecraft on that account. We never changed the windows account on the computer, unless buying minecraft literally wrecks the PC in that way.

Does anyone know what to do? It is asking him for a password to login that we just dont have or know.

The application installation won't cause Windows 11 user account login password to be set on a user account if it's not a PIN for Microsoft account if you are promoted to enter local account password, then you can reset it to none password.

In this guide, i present a straightforward method for resetting Windows local user accounts password using Hiren's BootCD PE (Preinstallation Environment).

Yes in a way.....
If you got minecraft from the microsoft store (or any xbox game) and signed in with your xbox account, (which you would be prompted for) it will convert your account to a Microsoft account if you choose to sign in with all apps, which is the default suggested colored box. Microsoft doesn't explain it well and they know people don't read and just click next.

Looks like this:

Since your account got converted to a microsoft account, it then now asks for the password. They will need to use their xbox or microsoft account password to log into the computer.

Once you get back in:
To go back to a local account:

To check your account info, go to settings and click the name and account in the top left to see the information.

I'm guessing you were not able to reset the password or find recovery info to get the account back?
