i recently had an update to 24H2 but it failed as it said some other devices were not up to date.
I checked everything but could not find an issue, so i found a "guide" on Youtube that said to try using Winget and forcing all updates.
after this i could not even get onto my PC for a few days as i thought my keyboard was broken.
it turned out that i had it plugged into a USB3.0 port and the driver for the USB 3.0 had an error code.

Intel USB3.0 error code 10, so i tried to uninstall the device to forget it to restart or update.
now it only shows as "usb xhci compliant host controller" and still has the same error code.

this is preventing all USB 3.0 ports from working on my PC.

i have tried to uninstall several times,
i have tried to search for updated drivers but apparently the one winget got is the newest so it will not let me use an older one
i tried to roll back the 24H2 update,
i tried to copy the drivers from another win 11 PC but it will not let me overwrite or delete the files.

does anyone have any ideas how to proceed from here?
my next step is to just give up and buy a usb 3.1 hub.

Set XHCI mode in BIOS to Auto.
Install the latest driver for the chipset.
Try different ports for the flash drive.

I cannot see any options in the BIOS to set XHCI,
i updated to second most recent BIOS to make sure ( most recent would not work for some reason)
on the ASUS website the chipset drivers installed are the most recent.
its not a flash drive i am having issues with, its anything in any of the USB ports. on testing tonight i found it affects all the USB 2.0 and USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports
The only two ports that work are the 2x USB 3.1 Gen 2.

First make sure that all USB cables have been physically unplugged from the computer's USB 3.0 ports. In Device Manager, expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers category. Remove the driver for the USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller device and all USB Hub devices (i.e. via right-click on each of these devices). Reboot. In Device Manager, on the Power Management tab of each device related to USB Root Hub, uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" (i.e. via double-click on each of these devices). See if this helps.

In addition, although it usually will depend, you may also have to disable Fast Startup and/or disable USB Selective Suspend. If the issue is still not fixed, try Device Manager | View | Show hidden devices, and, remove the driver of each hidden (greyed out) USB device that has ever been plugged in to a USB port. Then when you plug your USB devices back in, also be sure to, each time before you plug your next USB device in to a USB port, wait several seconds to let Windows automatically detect your USB device and to let Windows automatically reinstall its driver.

only the ports at #3 work.
i tried going into the BIOS and disabling all ports but left one at a time active to see if that would help but no change.

Where is that located. i looked in my device manager to check the version but could not see it. But if its a storage driver issue would that not only affect the ports when trying to plug in flash drives? not all devices

In the BIOS, press the F7 key to switch from EZ Mode to Advanced Mode. Next, on the main menu bar, click on the "Advanced" menu option. From there, go to the "USB Configuration" menu. In this menu, look for "USB Single Port Control". See if the USB ports that you are trying to use are enabled in these settings.

Pretty basic stuff to suggest but have you tried a cold boot at all?
Shutdown your system then keep pressing the Power Button for about ten seconds until you hear the reset confirming it's done.

If you aren't using nor plan to use the RAID (or RST Premium with Optane or CPU RSTe) storage features of the motherboard, then you don't need to install the Intel RST/RSTe driver. Just leave the "SATA Mode Selection" under "PCH Storage Configuration" in the BIOS set to "AHCI". Else, you can refer to the user manual's sections 3.6.5 PCH Storage Configuration and 3.6.6 CPU Storage Configuration, and Chapter 4: RAID Support.

Tried the drivers and no luck.
only did the chipset MEI and SATA. i dont use RAID on anything other than my NAS.
I might start thinking of doing a wipe, but i have no optical drive or installation media.

Before considering to just wipe it, try to repair Windows with an in-place upgrade maybe?
