This is my desktop background image. I couldn't get rid of the green block - it just showed up when I closed an app window (Quicken). That green is the default color on this install of Windows. I re-selected the picture again to remove it. Never saw this before...

I have seen a similar bug. Not a whole square, but the bottom line of the windows of a closed application. The application was closed, but the bottom line of the window persisted. Pressing F5 to refresh the desktop didn't work. Of course this was a temporary bug, restarting the computer solved this. Probably due to some overheating of the graphics card, not sure.

Interesting.. not sure this is a Win 11 “bug” per se.
I’ve seen this behavior on other win versions where an app has a hidden window that leaves a ghost framed area when closing.
I’ve also seen where an app (browser?) leaves a narrow full-screen red-framed rectangle on the screen that overlays everything, but doesn’t block anything but what’s behind the narrow frame portion, but won’t go away .. another ghost window?
A reboot has always cleared them.

That bridge at some point I thought I knew it.

So I looked it up and indeed, it's the Ravenna bridge, which you would think would be situated in Italy, but it's not.

It's in the Black Forest in Germany where I spent some holidays in the past, very nearby!

So it was a moment of recognition... (y)
