Networked business, HDD, yeah, I can imagine that. My 11 year-old Win7 updated to last W10 laptop never took that long to install - downloads seemed to take that long, but not install.

interesting question: is there any official or unofficial way to install updates only for existing components? i made a custom windows installation where i removed almost everything possible to remove, including defender app, tails of old classic edge app and more. when installing cumulative updates everything i removed comes back. this is why i ask how to update the windows selectively, only those components are actually installed?

I think it's more likely, that they are practicing a new excuse for possible Update issues.
Seeing if the community will accept the excuse. If not, they will work on another one.

These days, it seems appearance is.. everything. :/

And their only crap advice is to tell corporate users to keep logged on for at least 6 hours.

In my company, if you do not log out overnight, you get automatically logged out if pc is not used for a period for security AND if you keep doing it, you get a warning from IT department!

Worse, if you lose critical data because you did not save it, that is considered a disciplinary offence that could even lead to dismissal. Company will not accept "I was logged out by IT" as a valid excuse!

Well, for corporate entities, I can see where this advice may be a good thing. Especially considering the "times" involved.
Windows updates probably DO take some time to propagate through a large corporation's network.
Especially if that corporation has many... separate locations as well.

The "minimum of two connected hours and six hours total" is well within an 8 hour workday.

Maybe MS workers work less than 2 hours a day?

So much about 'Save the environment' and trying to save our resources!
This is insane...
We have an 'all equipment turned-off policy, including switching of any power strips at ones desk, as soon as you leave the office...
Which makes very much sense, and should be practised everywhere, especially in large companies.

Not really it's why first thing is to disable updating "by various means" and switch to metered internet to calm the update beast we know as windows update lol
Also make sure you aren't sending updates to others on the internet MS loves using other people bandwidth and resources and it doesn't always default to only your local network ;)
