Iphone reset trough 10 wrong pins really save or can you recover the data?

Hey,

I made my iphone secure today and activate the setting that the data is getting erased after 10 times typing in wrong password.

My question:

Will the data getting erased securely or can an attacker steal my phone and then can recover the data after it was erased?

When you delete data from an iPhone (messages etc) , it is still accessible.
When an iPhone is erased, the data is gone.

I am not saying it’s impossible (but I am pretty sure it is) You’d have to be somebody pretty important for anyone to care, or be unlucky enough for the phone to be stolen or found by someone good enough to get the data back.

Just to add, if 10 failed passcodes are attempted to be used and the iPhone is erased, there would be no way for anyone to get into the phone anyway because not only is the data gone, but the passcodes that enable you to get into the iPhone in the first place are gone also. So, in short, Zero chance of retrieving data.

Also to add to this, the phone is a brick because even if the phone erases, it has to be signed back into the apple (iphone) or google (android) account that was signed in previously in order to be used again. This is great for security, but bad environmentally, as most people don't know or care to properly factory reset their phone when trading it in or selling it, making it useless.

We don't mind helping people with Apple problems. I'm myself an an Apple fanboy.

That said, you don't want to turn on 2FA because its not needed in a home/small business setting. Having to login all the time with an authenticator code is too much of a hassle.

I highly disagree. 2FA is extremely important for account security. And you shouldn't need to input a code constantly. It will remember the devices you have used after a bit and shouldn't ask for them to often.

There is no such thing as a trusted place when it comes to account security. I think you are confusing what 2FA is for. Your account is online, doesn't matter when you physically are.

So when I leave my office I should setup and activate 2 factor authentication, on every site and device I use it on and turn it off when I get back to the office? If it’s setup and on, it stays on, anything else is ridiculous. I agree with Andrew, perhaps you’re confusing what 2FA is.
