Is a "Task..." popup causing my troubles

Windows 11
From time to time, a little window (from monitor's bottom) containing the two lines "Task manager" and "Task bar settings" pops up and then, I have trouble using mouse and fingers on the screen. For instance, the NYTimes puzzle does not allow me to put in letters, and I cannot close apps and boxes. This popup pops up and down without to me obvious regularity or reason.

Laptop is newly bought, I am new to Win 11, and the above is all I really know. But I am more than willing to troubleshoot.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, @HansL and welcome to the Eleven Forum (11F for short)!

What you're seeing is actually the context menu, aka right click menu, from the taskbar:

Screenshot 2023-08-20 160702.png

On a regular laptop and desktop, you get to this by right clicking on the taskbar.

On a tablet, you get to it by long pressing on the taskbar, and that is probably what is happening to you.

This tutorial will help you change the length of that delay, if you wish to make it easier to use the device without this popping up all the time:

John, of course (now that I know :-). I hold fingers on the screen quite some time when I activate a box where I want to put a letter in puzzles. I have printed out the tutorial and will now go in and make the changes. Thank you very much!!! / Hans L

Could not do the changes. I think the tutorial is for an earlier version of Windows 11. However, now that I know what makes the popup pop up, I have been able to avoid it popping up, so my problem is solved. Again, thanks!

Hans,

My Windows 11 is up to date and the tutorial Option 1 allows me to change the setting.

What went wrong when you tried?
You did set the Control panel to Large icon view or Small icon view as the tutorial says? That is what allows you to see the Pen & touch entry.
If you used the Registry method, you did restart the computer afterwards?

I have changed both the double-tap and the press&hold settings in Control panel and in the Registry.
Neither of them seem to be having any practical effect.
Changes in the Control panel applet do not affect the Registry entries or vice versa.
- I've been playing with the double-tap speed as well because I thought it would be easier to see differences.
- Nothing I do in the Control panel changes the Registry values. [I do refresh the Registry view each time I change the Control panel setting.]
- In my Windows 10 touchscreen laptop, the Registry values do change in response to changes in the Control panel setting and I experience the changes in settings in practice.

I've told Brink about this.

Ahhh, bummer. Thanks Try and Hans for trying, and thanks Try for reporting it as well.

Kinda bums me out now that we have to have tutorials for specific builds / releases lol.
