I see a lot of errors during downloading different components (apps, updates), and I get the impression that they are being skipped.......am I wrong ?

No data is 100% safe from corruption in downloads through the Internet or drive to drive in a computer. An .iso file may be less susceptible as it is compressed but there usually is an MDA or SHA file on the download page that is used to verify the download. I've used a program called MD5 & SHA Checksum Utility for a number of years in doing that verification.

The issue with downloading is the reliability of all the connections a file goes through from the source to the destination, a simple hiccup somewhere along the line or many connections may or may not cause issues.

Any iso can get corrupted. None are immune, no matter the source. Although I do not use UUP , many here do use it religiously.
Personally, I prefer to download from MS servers as I like my stuff straight from the horse's mouth. But that's just me.

I also prefer to download from Microsoft itself, but most of the time the provided iso is out of date........I don't get why Microsoft doesn't update their ISOs after Cumulative updates

They do - they are just not available to everyone. If you have a subscription to what used to be MSDN (I thing that it is now something like Visual Studio subscriptions), then you can get access to these ISO images.

Personally, I just create my own ISO images every month by injecting the updates into the images every month.

Have you read some of the Cumulative Update threads? I for one am certainly glad they’re not writing some of them into an ISO and releasing it.

Just as a side note; To my knowladge, a fresh install from a Windows ISO actually downloads all updates during the install process. So you might start with a particular ISO build but the build number at the end of the install process might be different/higher.

After a clean install, Windows will try to update itself. The real question is how soon does it update?

1. For a clean ISO and no settings changes in the unattended file, WU will run in the background and within a day (or less) begin to self-update. If you completed your install closer to "quiet hours", meaning near the end of day, WU will get started sooner than compared if you finished an install in the morning or afternoon. Quiet hours is when WU likes to begin work.

2. If you applied the optional Setup Dynamic Update to the ISO, your install will pause in the beginning and check if there's a newer Monthly Update available. When the network allows, Setup downloads the current CU, before applying it to the install. In this scenario, Windows can boot up with a higher build than what's on the ISO.

3. 24H2 adds a new forced update check during OOBE, so if your ISO is behind then it will download the current CU and apply it during OOBE. Windows releases prior to 24H2 don't have this enforced behavior. Currently, there is no known config option to bypass the OOBE update. This gets you the same result as having Setup Dynamic Update, but the update is instead done as a post-setup step.

That’s what I said. Lets assume for the purpose of my original mention, that the OP is installing 24H2 because that’s the version that Asad is currently running… 24H2.

I heavily modify windows settings and other stuff in the ISO....using dynamic update during windows setup nullify most of my customizations.....so I actually unplug the ethernet and make sure to tweak windows update so that only security updates are downloaded before plugging the ethernet back......and that's why I want to download an updated ISO to customize it before the setup process.

You can download an updated ISO.
From, you guessed it... UUP Dump.

IF... any things are "skipped", you can easily download them from MS.
I've never noticed any "skipped" things in the UUP Dump ISOs.

I download the ISO from uupdump. The advantage is that you always get the latest version and you can choose which type of Windows you want. In any case, I only download 24H2 IoT Enterprise, I don't care about the rest and if there is an updated version of Windows Server 2025. So the system downloads the basic version of Windows and updates and during implementation it upgrades the basic version of Windows with updates and you get a clean updated Windows. That's what I like and that's how I work and there is no corruption, every ISO has been clean until today. Similar to working with NLite. I only download the Server 2025 Insider version from the MS site and nothing else. So uupdump has a wider possibility of freedom.

Yeah, but we still have other users who are stuck on 23H2 for HW or software reasons. When I answer questions, I try to educate the more general audience.

ls the updates integration process in NTLite generally more reliable/immune from corruption ? I ask this because after clean install windows update still offer the supposedly integrated Cumulative updates. That's why I started exploring other methods to obtain an updated ISOs

NTLite isn't really doing anything different when adding CU's than any other DISM-based process, but it does some sanity checking.

24H2 introduces the new wrinkle of having to always provide a base checkpoint CU, before adding any later non-checkpoint CU. I can see on the Discord some new users aren't always getting that point.
