Hello,

Please take a look at the entry list of bcdedit, and help me if anything seems amiss. Thank you so much for your help. I feel like I am in the dreaded "safe mode, alternate shell" mode of booting, and I don't know how to check if I am booting into that mode, or if I am booting into the correct mode. The safe mode alternate shell was listed in Autoruns...otherwise, I would not know it exists. Thanks again.

I believe if you are booting into regular safe mode it says so on the desktop. You can also search for msconfig. Open System Configuration from the search results. Select boot tab.
Safe boot should be unchecked. The only way you could be in safe mode alternate shell is if you had gone to msconfig and chosen that option.

If you are booting to a command prompt, that is alternate shell. Is that what you are seeing? If so,
Power off the machine using power button.
Hold down shift key and restart. Keep it held down until you see the recovery screen. Choose troubleshoot>advanced options>system restore.
Restore machine to earlier point.

Hey thanks for your reply and feedback. I was thinking along the same lines as you…if it doesn’t say it is in safe mode on the screen, and msconfig is not indicating safe mode, then it’s not in safe mode. But there was, for a while, a boot entry for winPE version of something called MicroWin. It is possible it was given an entry via a usb boot disk I made and used months back. It’s called Ultimate Boot Disk. It was made on a Ventoy bootable USB.

My main concern are the entries with Ramdisk locations in the fields. I’m just not very knowledgeable about mbr boot and I am especially ignorant on where the ramdisk entries have to do with uefi or dell supper assist (OS) recovery. Hoping to get an educated opinion of the recovery and resume from hibernate entry too—I usually disable hibernate, but I re-enabled it once I saw that entry. Hoping it continues to boot without issue.

Thank you so much. I love these forums!
