Is my hard drive dead?

I attempted to do a fifth clean install and got a BSOD somewhere in the process. So I did a force shutdown and tried another clean install. I noticed during the sixth clean install, the process of deleting partitions took a lot longer. The installation got stuck at 79% for a while, so I did another force shutdown.

Is my hard drive finally dead? Would formatting it do anything?

You can check the health of the HDD by opening Command Prompt by pressing Shift + F8 keys and execute the command from video.

Dead or not dead. That laptop comes with a slow HDD pre-installed. I really suggest you upgrade your HDD to an SSD. The difference is like night and day.

But before that, run the HP hardware check utilities, in order to determine if there is some other hardware issues.
