Hello!

I remember using some old versions of Mac OS X and instead of EN/GR had the respective country flag near the clock. Is there any utility to do the same in Windows 11? I have already downloaded Language Indicator Keyboard icon from Microsoft Store, but this shows the respective country flag near the cursor as you type. This is not what I want, and it is distracting. I would prefer if I can see the flag on the taskbar alongside ENG/ΕΛ of Windows 11 or replacing it. According to Google AI there is no such tool, but I decided to post it here just out of curiosity, in case you know something different. What I want is to press ALT+SHIFT or WIN+SPACE to switch keyboard layout and see the flag of the current layout on the taskbar.

Thanks.

Solution:

I downloaded Language Indicator Keyboard UK app from Microsoft Store which can show the current language flag on the taskbar and also near the cursor when typing or changing languages. Since showing the flag near the cursor all the time was distracting, I disabled that and left it show only on the taskbar. I also hid the default ENG/ΕΛ indicator on the taskbar since it is no longer necessary to see which keyboard layout I am using. The flag still shows for 2-3 seconds near the cursor when clicking on a field to type and when switching languages, but then disappears so it is not very distracting. It is a good solution until I find something better. I will mark the thread solved.

PS: An interesting side effect of using this utility is that pressing ALT+SHIFT to switch keyboard layout it is done instantly without failing. I frequently access my computer remotely via AnyDesk. When switching languages, if done too fast, sometimes the local language switched but not the remote language. Since the local language overrides the remote I could type in the desired language, but any key combinations would not work. For key combinations to work in AnyDesk both local and remote languages must be the same, in my case either both US English or both Greek. So when switching languages I had to wait 1-2 seconds to make sure both languages changed before releasing the keys. As you may understand, this is not very convenient when typing in a hurry. After installing the Language Indicator Keyboard UK app I realized that the language changes instantly almost with never failing on the remote side. Sure, it might be one time that it does fail if I do it too fast, but it is the exception, not the rule! Great!

PS2: For Windows 7 an alternative is Language Indicator utility:
Language Indicator for Windows - Free download and software reviews - CNET Download.
This only displays the country flag at the taskbar without showing it near the cursor, just like I wanted. Since it also works on Windows 11, I replaced the modern app store with this one. The flag is slightly smaller than the modern app, but I don't care. All flags are 16x16 pixels .png images. You can rename the original file and add your custom image. I downloaded the Greek and USA flags, resized to 16x16 pixels and now I have better looking flags.
