Windows Update installed a driver - Intel System 10.1.49.9 - on my system and I want to know what this is a driver for.
I have tried opening device properties in Device Manager one at a time and checking the driver version but have not found it (yet).
Is there a way to search for 10.1.49.9 to see what it was for?

WU downloaded this driver without user input. The only warning I got was a notification to restart the PC to finish updates.
I have Advanced System Settings > Hardware Tab > Device installation Settings > Auto download drivers set to NO.

Hi there

@TVeblen

This is another way. Go into Device manager and against a device select properties -- driver details / event log. You then get usually something like an &VEN or other descriptive type of string type of allowing you then to identify hardware manufacturer etc.

It is quite normal for generic drivers to be given "phony" old dates - this is so that they are low in the priority order when it comes to updates and avoids them being installed instead of a more recent one. In you case, it just means there may be no other driver.

That explains it.
I'm still not happy that drivers are installing without say-so.

That is an old Intel Chipset Driver, usually, those are listed under optional updates it's strange it was automatically installed.

The best way is to disable Driver updates through Windows updates as I've seen such older drivers from Windows updates cause worse performance or issues since they are not really updated drivers.

I would suggest you install the latest Chipset Drivers manually now: Chipset INF Utility

Do not forget to right-click on the file you just downloaded, go to Properties, then check the unblock button at the bottom if it says it was blocked because it came from the internet. If you don't do this, it will lead to erroneous installation as the installer wouldn't have the proper privileges.
