Windows 11
Running Windows 11, Version 23H2 (OS Build 2261.2715). Motherboard GIGABYTE Z790 AORUS MASTER (rev. 1.0). Using onboard video with a Dell 2707WFP monitor. have latest updates and BIOS. No viruses.

Sometimes when I start the computer in the morning and sometimes when I wake the computer from hibernate the monitor won't start. Rebooting the computer once or twice stars it and everything is fine.

I have looked at every 'solution' I have found in Internet searches and nothing has solved the problem. Help would be appreciated.

Hi Bob, Welcome to the Eleven Forums.

Bob, you haven’t listed what you have tried so be patient with my questions please.

Is the cable in both inputs properly? Do you have a spare cable you could use to check if the current one may be a problem? Also, do you remember when it first started so you can check the Dell updates for a corresponding driver update, maybe you could roll back to an earlier driver if they are available?

The monitor you have is dated back to 2007, when did you get your one? Do you have a spare or access to a monitor that you can use to see if the behaviour still exists? A friends monitor maybe? If it still exists, could be the Motherboard which should still be under warranty? Release date Oct 2022.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

I updated my computer info.

Cable is properly connected. No spare cable. Started more than a month ago. Dell has no driver updates for a monitor this old.

Got my monitor in 2008 for my previous computer. Have spare monitor. Same problem.

After2 restarts Windows goes into diagnostic mode. Get blue screen with option to restart or diagnose OS. Restart from blue screen starts monitor. Diagnostic ends up with restart again which works.

I believe it is an obscure setting somewhere within Windows causing the problem. Something allowing some component to go to sleep and not waking properly.

I agree it is not a monitor issue. The video drivers are supplied by Gigabyte. I have installed the latest they have available. I have used Device Manager to check for new drivers and none are available. I don't know what to try.

If it were me and I as facing your issues, I’d have to suspect that it's either a corrupt OS or the Motherboard has problems. You didn’t update the BIOS around the time you started having these problems did you? Have you asked on the Gigabyte forum? Do they still have one? I know one of the big names ceased operating a forum, I can’t remember which one..

I can't log into the Gigabyte forum. Website won't work. I think it is W 11. I believe it is an obscure setting somewhere within Windows causing the problem. I think if the Motherboard was bad it would never come on correctly. I'm typing on it now.

I can't log into the Gigabyte forum. Website won't work.

I just had a look, the official Gigabyte forum closed. I believe there is a community based one in the UK but I remember trying to join a few times and they never sent a confirmation, didn’t answer emails.

I think it is W 11
Very possible.

I believe it is an obscure setting somewhere within Windows causing the problem.
Not sure I have ever come across an obscure “setting” that would make A. The monitor not always work B. Cause random boot failures and diag screen

I think if the Motherboard was bad it would never come on correctly. I'm typing on it now.
Not necessarily. I’ve had motherboards that took many months to eventually die with many signs of them failing. Same with RAM and same with CPU’s
I’d possibly look into hardware Diagnostic software, I am not aware of any specifically, I haven’t used any for years.

BUT, it could very well be you could fix this stuff with running a repair on the operating system, I’d maybe do that first?

Tried both repair methods. With Repair Install Windows 11 via Windows Update there is no option to Fix Problems using Windows Update. for the option Repair Install Windows 11 using ISO or USB Installation Media my original USB installation would not work as after all the updates my installed version is different from the original version. Tried the Windows Update troubleshooter. Said it made changes but no fix.
