UPDATE: The article mentioned by Techpowerup is from The Verge which in my view doesn't reflect well on Intel.

I have a Core i7-13700K CPU but no issues at present. If buying a CPU now I would hit Intel in their pockets and buy AMD instead. As a UK consumer I am covered under UK consumer law for manufacturing defects admitted by Intel for up to 6 years regardless of whatever warranty Intel offer.

I've been running their beta for my MEG Z790 ACE with my 13900k and the voltages never get to 1.5v which is the Intel max, however, it keeps my speed limit at 5.6ghz max. While this is bad it isn't as bad at AMD's cracking the substrate in half like with the 79xx's. It's all in how they handle it. Remember AMD denied there was a problem until enough people came forward forcing their hands.

they so far have not disclosed which batch and serial number are affected. they just said it happened with manufacturing in 2023. I bought my latest build in 2023. When I put my serial and batch in the form, it only tells you limited info, but not date of manufacture or if it is part of the issue.

I purchased my 65W non-k model this past May. I did update BIOS/enforce all limits even though I've never experienced any
instability issues.

Closest we can tell right now might be the launch date. But who knows how long it was sitting on a shelf? Here's mine.

(Intel Foundry Services) can tell you that Raptor Lake was rushed through our Fab in Arizona in record time, but it's also produced in other fabs. However, this location (Arizona) is notable because I can confirm that there was an Oxidation issue by some failure in our HVAC system between March & June 2023. It was so bad that Keyvan Esfarjani had to fly in to make a decision about which wafers (which cost as much as Model X each) needed to be thrown away. To be clear, I don't know what decision was made, but I do know that this event DID happen. And by the way, it affected Sapphire Rapids yields as well, although I doubt it's an issue wasn't fixed by now".

My CPU was made in Vetnam so maybe not affected by the oxidation issue?

My CPU was made in Vetnam so maybe not affected by the oxidation issue?

The oxidation issue is supposed to be limited to the AZ fab for a two month period in 2023 but who knows for sure.

That adds to my confusion. My CPU box just says made in Vietnam yet I see from the link the Vietnam site is an assembly plant. This probably means the silicon wafer could still have been fabricated in the US but then there are many fab plants in the US. Does anyone know the sites where the Core i7-13700K wafers are fabricated?

Intel need to clarify the date range that the oxidation issue occurred and the serial numbers of the chips affected so people can check their CPUs to see if they're potentially affected.

The fact that they haven't makes them look as if they're trying to cover it up leading people to assume the worse and for rumours and misinformation to spiral out of control. That is not a good look for a company that sells CPUs as it would just drive customers over to AMD who now offer their own compelling products. It also means that everyone will be worrying if they have a potentially defective CPU because we have no way of checking or knowing.

Mistakes happen, fine, but at least look as if you're trying to help everyone by giving as much information as possible, not dribs and drabs from multiple different sources that just add to the confusion. It just makes the whole thing frustrating.

I haven't had any issues with my i5-13600KF, which I got in December 2022, but CPUs can develop issues and fail as part of normal wear and tear. How would I know otherwise if any potential issue I have is a result of this oxidation mistake or just bad luck if we don't know exactly when this happened and which CPUs are affected? The fact that Intel have said so little on this issue is making me seriously consider going for an AMD CPU will be next PC build.

My i7-13700K batch number is X237F982 which means the CPU was manufactured week 37 in 2022 which was 12 September 2022. This date is well clear of the March - June 23 period mentioned above for the Arizona plant having oxidation issues so hopefully my CPU is fine. I've always set a thermal limit of 85C from new so the other over voltage issue hopefully is OK too.

I think that is possibly correct. Based on multiple sources on the internet including a post on the Intel forums years ago it apparently works like this. That said I cannot find a recent confirmation online by Intel.

My 13900K batch# = X251L486
1st letter or digit (manufacturing plant): X = Vietnam
2nd digit = 2: Year of production (2022) 13th and 14th generation Raptor Lake processors would have either 2 (2022) or 3 (2023) or 4 (2024)
3rd & 4th digits (week) = 51: (51st week)
5th - 8th digits= L486 (serialization code)

This make sense as I purchased by CPU at the end of March 2023 here in New Zealand.

My i7-13700K says Made in Vietnam on the box but Vietnam is an assembly plant. The wafers containing the CPU must have been manufactured elsewhere.
